Job description

Nasdaq is seeking a Director of Communications to lead strategic communications for our Digital Liquidity Networks (DLN) organization, bringing together Nasdaq's digital assets, tokenization, and next-generation market infrastructure initiatives under one mandate.
As the senior communications leader for this transformative business area you will craft compelling narratives that position Nasdaq as the trusted partner helping markets become more digital, interconnected, and continuous. You will drive the creation, development, and execution of comprehensive communications strategies that support the evolution of the capital markets - from digital assets and tokenized instruments to off-exchange equities execution, programmable infrastructure, and always-on trading.
This role requires a unique blend of senior-level communications expertise, fluency in both traditional market structure and Web3/DeFi/blockchain ecosystems, an established network spanning mainstream financial media and the digital asset community, and the judgment to communicate credibly across audiences as varied as institutional investors, crypto-native participants, ATS liquidity venues, and regulators.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Messaging
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that advance Nasdaq's Digital Liquidity Networks vision and business objectives

  • Craft clear, compelling messaging that bridges traditional finance, market-structure, and crypto-native audiences

  • Position Nasdaq executives and subject matter experts as authoritative voices on the modernization of markets - digital assets, tokenization, continuous/always-on trading, equities market structure and programmable, interoperable infrastructure

  • Create strategic narratives around key initiatives including off-exchange/ATS execution, digital asset trading, post-trade, collateral management, blockchain infrastructure, tokenization, and institutional adoption

  • Lead the development of long-term communications roadmaps aligned with DLN's business strategy and the evolving market-structure landscape

Media Relations & Issues Management
  • Proactively pitch stories and secure high-impact coverage in crypto-native, market-structure, and traditional business media

  • Manage media inquiries and develop reactive statements on market developments, M&A milestones, and regulatory developments affecting DLN

  • Monitor digital asset news flow, market-structure developments, and social sentiment to identify opportunities and risks

Thought Leadership & Content Development
  • Drive thought leadership programs that establish Nasdaq as a trusted voice on the transformation of capital markets and the future of liquidity

  • Develop executive bylines, speeches, presentations, and content for industry conferences and events

  • Collaborate with product, legal, and marketing to translate complex technical and market-structure concepts into accessible and compelling communications materials

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Leverage existing relationships and build new connections with key influencers across both the digital asset community and traditional liquidity/equities ecosystem

  • Support government relations, product, and legal teams to engage with policymakers, regulators, and industry associations on digital asset policy, market-structure reform, and regulatory developments

  • Cultivate relationships with crypto-focused, market-structure, and mainstream media to secure strategic coverage and positioning

  • Activate network to amplify Nasdaq's presence and credibility across the DLN ecosystem

Required Qualifications
Experience & Background
  • 10+ years of communications experience, with a proven track record in progressively senior roles

  • Minimum 3-5 years focused on digital assets, blockchain, cryptocurrency, Web3, equities market structure, or trading-venue/ATS communications

  • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic communications programs that drive business results, including M&A and business-launch communications

  • Experience working in or with the crypto/blockchain industry (exchanges, protocols, infrastructure providers, DeFi platforms, Web3 companies) and/or traditional market-structure participants (exchanges, ATS/ECNs, liquidity venues, market makers, post-trade providers)

  • Deep, established network spanning the digital asset community and mainstream financial markets, including relationships with key influencers, media, founders, and industry leaders

  • Deep fluency in crypto and blockchain technology, including technical architecture, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, DeFi protocols, and tokenomics

  • Strong understanding of market structure and liquidity models, including off-exchange execution, ATS/ECN dynamics, continuous vs. periodic trading, and the evolution of institutional liquidity

  • Comprehensive understanding of the digital asset ecosystem, including major blockchain networks (Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, etc.), cross-chain infrastructure, and emerging protocols and solutions

  • Expert knowledge of the intersection between mainstream finance and decentralized finance, and the broader transformation of capital-markets architecture

  • Strong understanding of the digital asset regulatory landscape including securities laws, AML/KYC requirements, and evolving policy frameworks across jurisdictions

  • Familiarity with institutional crypto adoption trends, including custody solutions, digital asset trading infrastructure, tokenization, and digital asset market structure

Skills & Competencies
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities with extensive experience translating complex technical and market-structure concepts for diverse audiences

  • Strong media relations skills with established relationships in crypto-focused, market-structure, and mainstream business media

  • Strategic thinker with ability to anticipate market trends, identify communications opportunities, and provide senior-level counsel

  • Excellent judgment and proven ability to navigate sensitive topics in a highly regulated, fast-moving environment

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with C-suite executives and cross-functional stakeholders
