The Director of Dental Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for all dental services and clinic operations. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, optimizing patient access and service delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing financial performance, and supporting quality improvement initiatives. The Director collaborates closely with dental providers, administrative departments, and organizational leadership to advance operational excellence, improve patient outcomes, enhance the patient experience, and support the achievement of organizational goals. This position leads operational teams, drives process improvement efforts, and promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide operational leadership and oversight for all dental clinic operations to support efficient service delivery, patient access, and organizational goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor operational strategies, policies, and workflows to improve efficiency, productivity, and patient experience.
  • Collaborate with dental providers and clinical leadership to support the delivery of high-quality patient care and achievement of organizational quality goals.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Monitor provider productivity, staffing utilization, scheduling effectiveness, treatment plan completion, and operational performance to maximize efficiency and patient access.
  • Recruit, lead, develop, and evaluate operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, OSHA requirements, and quality initiatives.
  • Support risk management, patient safety, infection prevention, and emergency preparedness activities within assigned operations.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction, patient access, treatment acceptance, and patient retention metrics and implement strategies to improve service delivery and patient experience.
  • Establish, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, quality measures, and departmental performance outcomes.
  • Oversee dental insurance processes, revenue cycle activities, and operational workflows that support timely patient care and financial performance.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and lead initiatives designed to improve operational effectiveness, patient outcomes, and organizational performance.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Revenue Cycle, Quality, and other departments to support operational goals and organizational initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic planning, service expansion, program development, and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with referral partners, community organizations, vendors, and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, support decision-making, and drive organizational performance.
  • Strong strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to develop and implement effective operational solutions.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, manage competing priorities, and adapt to evolving operational and regulatory requirements.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible healthcare operations experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership role.
  • Experience managing multi-site healthcare operations, operational performance, staffing, budgets, and process improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working in a community health center, ambulatory care, multi-specialty practice, or similar healthcare environment preferred.
