Director, Business Development - Epi and Thermal ALD

The Director, Business Development is a senior strategic leader responsible for defining and driving ASM's global business growth. This role shapes longterm market direction, influences technology and product roadmaps, and forges deep, executivelevel customer partnerships to maximize adoption, market share, and profitability.

The leader will serve as ASM's primary authority on market dynamics, competitive positioning, and customer technology inflection points - directly guiding strategic decisions across product, engineering, and regional sales teams. The role is accountable for overall business performance including bookings, revenue, margin expansion, and strategic penetration at leading semiconductor manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Ownership

  • Define and execute the global growth strategy aligned with customer technology inflections, industry roadmaps, and ASM's longterm portfolio objectives.
  • Shape the multiyear business vision, including market prioritization, investment requirements, and partnership opportunities.

Technology & Product Roadmap Influence

  • Serve as the voice of the customer and the market - owning competitive intelligence, customer insights, and requirements for nextgeneration platforms and processes.
  • Partner with Product Marketing and R&D to influence product strategy, platform architecture decisions, and differentiation priorities.

New Product Introductions (NPI)

  • Lead product launch strategies from concept to commercialization, ensuring clear value propositions, competitive positioning, and successful global adoption.
  • Drive customer engagement for demos, evals, beta programs, and joint development activities.

Global Sales & Market Expansion

  • Develop and implement account and regional strategies to maximize market penetration and accelerate wins at strategic customers.
  • Provide executive support on deal strategies, value messaging, and competitive defense.

Executive Customer Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior engineering, corporate strategy, and procurement leaders across top semiconductor accounts.
  • Lead strategic product discussions, roadmap alignment sessions, and collaboration frameworks.

Commercial & Business Leadership

  • Oversee product commercial strategy including quotation structures, competitive pricing approaches, winloss analytics, and margin optimization.
  • Ensure alignment between business objectives, sales execution, and product delivery commitments.

Business Operations & Forecasting

  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Finance on demand forecasting, capacity planning, and supply readiness.
  • Monitor and drive business performance through KPIs and strategic action plans.

Qualifications

Education

  • MS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical discipline required.
  • Ph.D. or MBA strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years in semiconductor capital equipment or relevant industry, including:
    • Deep technical and commercial experience with thinfilm deposition
    • Experience with semiconductor equipment sales, marketing, product management, or business development.
  • Proven leadership in developing business strategies, driving adoption of advanced process equipment, and managing highlevel customer relationships.
  • Experience influencing product roadmaps and leading crossfunctional decisionmaking.
