Location: Grandview Heights, OH Salary: $51.00 USD Hourly - $61.00 USD Hourly Description:
UI/UX Designer Consultant
Location: Columbus, OH (Hybrid)
Duration: 1+ Year
Position Summary
The selected Consultant will be directly responsible for designing a modern intuitive UI/UX and will have direct experience interacting with business users to create the UI/UX.
They will work closely with designated business users, IT supervisors, project managers, and development staff within an Agile development environment, maintaining a user-centered design approach while tackling complex design problems and influencing product strategy.
The consultant will proactively identify areas of the product that need improvement and drive those improvements into a product roadmap.
The consultant will be responsible for researching, designing, and developing user interfaces using prototyping/design tools. New applications will implement an N-tier architecture and comply with organizational coding standards.
Work Arrangement
  • Candidate must be an Ohio resident.
  • All work must be performed within the State of Ohio.
  • Onsite work required every 3rd day at the Shipley Building.
  • Initial 15-minute Teams interview followed by onsite interviews.
  • Background check required.

Required Experience & Skills
Please include the candidate's years of experience for each skill in submissions.
  • Verifiable experience translating user interface requirements into intuitive, user-centered interfaces for workflow-heavy applications (8+ years).
  • Advanced understanding of information architecture and designing intuitive user interfaces, navigation patterns, and multi-step workflows (8+ years).
  • Experience delivering projects within an Agile methodology, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and iterative delivery (8+ years).
  • Highly skilled in working with design systems, including component libraries, reusable patterns, and visual standards (5+ years).
  • Experience designing and delivering SaaS, enterprise, or other complex digital products (5+ years).
  • Experience with modern design tools such as:
    • Figma
    • Axure
    • Sketch
    • Similar design/prototyping tools (5+ years)
  • Familiarity with backend and frontend development environments sufficient for effective collaboration.
  • Experience designing accessible interfaces aligned with WCAG and Section 508 requirements.
  • Demonstrable understanding of secure UX design practices and accessibility standards.
  • Experience collaborating with frontend developers on HTML/CSS implementation details.

Responsibilities
  1. Participate in meetings with stakeholders, business users, and engineering teams to understand project UI requirements.
  2. Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and user-friendly interfaces supporting complex business processes.
  3. Work through all phases of product development, from discovery and research through UI design.
  4. Test and iterate product concepts with users through research and analysis.
  5. Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts to brainstorm ideas and design solutions.
  6. Create and maintain reusable Design System libraries.
  7. Establish a seamless UI handoff process to development teams.
  8. Ensure UI/UX designs follow best practices and comply with security requirements.
  9. Collaborate closely with backend developers to integrate front-end components.
  10. Participate in backlog grooming sessions and other Agile ceremonies to ensure development teams understand proposed UI designs.
  11. Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills.
  12. Apply influence, collaboration, and negotiation skills effectively.
  13. Collaborate across business and functional teams.
  14. Communicate ideas to various stakeholders, lead discussions, facilitate creative activities, and build consensus while managing ambiguity.
  15. Lead and manage large design initiatives while balancing competing priorities.
  16. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and facilitate meetings effectively.
