Job description

QED Systems, LLC, is currently recruiting a Modernization Architect Engineer to join our team at APG, MD to support our customer, Project Manager Intelligence Systems & Analytics (PM IS&A).

The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking Software Modernization Architect for Army Intelligence Systems and lead the digital transformation of our software engineering practices and systems architecture. This role will bridge the gap between legacy systems and modern, agile development environments. This role is responsible for guiding the systems engineering process, establishing continuous iterative development practices, and ensuring our enterprise architecture securely scales to meet evolving mission needs.

Duties:

  • Systems & Architecture Design: Develop and maintain business, systems, and IT processes that support enterprise mission requirements, defining clear baseline and target architectures.
  • Process Modernization: Assist in transition to continuous iterative development and "software factory" models (e.g., Agile, DevSecOps), driving the integration of modern software practices across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Technical Strategy & Sustainment: Advocate for and facilitate early engagement in system acquisitions to define and plan long-term software sustainment and modernization roadmaps.
  • Risk & Security Integration: Collaborate with security teams to design and embed enterprise and systems security controls throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and regulations.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Translate complex technological and environmental constraints into clear IT rules and requirements for program management offices (PMOs), developers, and leadership.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Detail-oriented with excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in software systems architecture, enterprise architecture (e.g., DoDAF), and modern software development methodologies (Agile, CI/CD).
  • Proven track record of guiding legacy software systems through modernization and capability sourcing.
  • Deep understanding of systems engineering processes, from Pre-Milestone A planning and requirements gathering through to testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage technical teams, influence decision-makers, and oversee architecture configuration management.
  • Direct experience working with complex software systems performing requirements decomposition, managing requirements, reviewing software design, and tracking software development, integration and testing.
  • Direct experience with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance software systems. Direct experience in the design, integration, configuration, and analysis of complex software systems, military electronics, computer networking, and digital and graphic display systems.
  • Direct experience with Department of Defense System Engineering processes.
  • Practical engineering working experience in applying industry best practices in the development of C5ISR architecture-based processes, frameworks, tools, and architecture views/viewpoints.

Required Clearance:

  • ACTIVE CLEARANCE LEVEL REQUIRED: Top Secret with SCI eligibility

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree may be in Electrical, Electronic, System, Software or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of related work experience is required.
  • Master’s degree and eight (8) or more years of related experience may substitute fifteen (15) years of experience.

Travel:

Up to 25% travel is expected for this position. Travel may include continental United States and outside continental United States locations.

Work Environment:

This position will be co-located with the customer and other contractors in Government office spaces.

  • Be independently mobile.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers.
  • Withstand prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer use.
  • Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full‐time position, Monday through Friday. Flexibility around core hours. Travel may occur outside of normal core hours.

Estimated Salary Range: $150,000.00 - $195,000.00 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. This represents the typical range for fully qualified candidates for this position based on experience, geographic location, and other factors. The final offer amount may vary.
