Job description

POSITION TITLE:  Apple Systems Engineer

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  Technology Division / Technology Support Center

STATUS: Classified - Exempt/Full-Time

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours a week / 12 month / 242-day calendar

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The position is responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the Apple systems that support core organizational functions. This position is expected to monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all networked and cloud software and associated operating systems. This individual will also mentor and provide guidance to the Technology Services staff.

This position is part of the Technology Division and reports to the Assistant Director of Technology Services. 

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Planning:

         Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

         Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define district requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve systems issues. 

         Identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems.

         Collaborate with Senior Engineers and IT staff to improve operational efficiency, device management, and deployment processes

 Acquisition & Deployment:

         Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.

         Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.

         Interact and negotiate with vendors and contractors to secure system-related products and services.

         Lead 1:1 Deployment Teams for all levels (ES, MS, and HS devices)

         Design and maintain 1:1 deployment processes and implementations

         Coordinate inventory tracking, device preparation, staging, and deployment logistics

         Support software deployment, patch management, and device lifecycle management processes

 Operational Management

         Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems including but not limited to Apple iOS, Apple systems, Mosyle, Intune, and Active Directory; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.

         Design and perform server and system audits related to Apple systems and infrastructure, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with department disaster recovery and continuity strategies.

         Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.

         Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.

         Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.

         Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.

         Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.

         Work with Information Technology Trainer to provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.

         Supervision and guidance to the apple systems analysts, assigning tasks, addressing performance and performing annual evaluations

         Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

         Bachelor's degree in IT or related field of study preferred

         3-5 Years' experience working in the IT industry

         Previous experience with Server 2008, 2012, and 2016

         Experience working with server technologies preferred

         Minimum ACMT certification required

  • Apple Certified Technical Coordinator certification preferred

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

         Familiarity with Apple, Microsoft, and MDM environments

         Excellent network troubleshooting skills with LAN, WAN and internet connectivity

         Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills

         Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills

         Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

         Must exhibit a high degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentiality

         Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

         Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy

         Proven ability to manage time, projects and meet deadlines

         Highly collaborative team player

         Work with others with lesser technical skills to resolve questions and issues

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the performance of heavy work-which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  The position includes significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

Specifically, this job requires the ability to:

         Lift and transport standard computer equipment and rack-mounted server equipment

         Sit for extended periods of time

         Bend and crouch in small work areas in order to install network cabling and/or computer systems

The job is performed in conditions that may include temperature extremes or hazardous conditions.
