Director, Corporate Strategy
What you will do
In this role, you will help shape Amgen's long-term direction by leading initiatives that inform some of the company's most important business decisions. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Strategy, you will partner closely with senior leaders across the enterprise to evaluate opportunities, address complex business questions, and help position the company for long-term success.
The scope of the work is broad and varied. One project may involve helping to develop the annual strategy update for the Board of Directors, while another may focus on evaluating an emerging competitive trend or analyzing the implications of changes across the biopharmaceutical landscape. This is a small, high-performing team that works directly with Amgen's executives on many of the company's most important enterprise questions. No two projects are exactly alike, requiring intellectual curiosity, structured problem solving, and the ability to translate complex analyses into clear recommendations.
Success in this role requires strong business judgment, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to build relationships across Research & Development, Commercial, Operations, Finance, Business Development, and other functions. The Director will also play an important role in mentoring junior members of the Corporate Strategy team and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
This role may be performed remotely; however, flexibility to support Pacific Time working hours during periods of high business activity is expected.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner in developing the annual strategy update for Amgen's Board of Directors.
  • Lead enterprise initiatives that address important business opportunities and challenges, partnering across functions to develop thoughtful recommendations and concise, compelling communications for senior leadership.
  • Conduct market, competitive, portfolio, and financial analyses, while evaluating industry trends, competitive dynamics, emerging technologies, and other external developments to inform executive decision-making.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 4 years of healthcare business experience
OR
Master's degree and 7 years of healthcare business experience

  • Experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, corporate development, or a comparable role within the biopharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives and influence decision-making.
  • Excellent executive communication and presentation skills, including experience developing materials for senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into practical business recommendations.
  • Experience working effectively across functions and building alignment without direct authority.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing team members.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
