Job description

Lakeland Engineering Company is seeking a Sales Account Manager to join our dynamic team in Golden Valley, MN. The Sales Account Manager is responsible for generating new business opportunities and maintaining relationships with existing clients through face-to-face meetings, presentations, and networking. This role requires traveling within an assigned territory to meet clients, understand their needs, and provide tailored solutions that drive revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospecting & Relationship Building: Identify new leads, travel to meet clients, and maintain strong bonds with existing customers for long-term growth.
  • Support existing clients and generate new business in industrial automation. General knowledge of PLC’s, HMI’s and VFD’s and how they operate needed.
  • Communicate thoroughly and in a timely manner with clients and the Lakeland sales team.
  • Identify sales opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Develop prospective accounts.
  • Sales & Negotiation: Provide quotes, negotiate pricing, and close deals.
  • Maintain sales activity reports and track opportunities.
  • Assist with the identification of appropriate product substitutions as needed.
  • Communicate with our vendor partners to obtain product samples, as well as for them to provide technical assistance to you as needed.
  • Interface with the Lakeland Engineering Equipment Co. business system to accomplish many duties.
  • Participates proactively in the self-education of product specifications, features and benefits.
  • Participates in product training by others as required.
  • Strive to achieve goals set forth by themselves and the company.
  • Represent Lakeland Engineering Equipment Co. in a manner that is mutually beneficial to our clients, our company and our vendor partners.
  • Accepts ownership of one’s responsibilities and assigned tasks.
  • Product Expertise: Stay updated on electrical industry trends, new products, and competitor offerings.
  • Consultation & Solution Selling: Understand customer electrical needs, recommend appropriate products/services (components, systems, automation), and suggest advanced applications.
  • Customer Support: Resolve issues, provide samples, and ensure customer satisfaction post-sale.
  • Administrative Duties: Manage sales records, prepare reports, and update CRM databases.

Typical Day Includes:

  • Morning prep/admin.
  • Travel to customer sites (contractors, engineers, facilities).
  • Face-to-face meetings, product demos, and relationship nurturing.
  • Afternoon follow-ups, emails, and potentially attending industry events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Industrial distribution) or relevant experience
  • Experience inside the electrical distribution industry preferred.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Microsoft Windows navigation, and CRM.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of electrical products, systems, and applications.
  • Sales Experience: Proven track record in B2B sales, direct sales, or industrial environments.
  • Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, self-motivation, and organization.
  • Logistics: Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and willingness to travel within a territory.

Physical Demands

  • The ability to perform in the following environments and conditions:
    • Climb several flights of stairs repeatedly during visit with customers
    • Be able to lift and maneuver a minimum of 50lbs
