Marketing Specialist
Position Type: Full-Time; Exempt
Reports To: Marketing & Development Director
Position Overview
The Marketing Specialist supports Heartland Counseling Services' mission through marketing, communications, fundraising, community engagement, and special events. This role helps increase awareness of Heartland's programs and services, strengthen relationships with donors and community partners, and share stories that demonstrate Heartland's impact.
The ideal candidate is creative, organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about serving the community. They are a strong communicator who enjoys building relationships, managing multiple priorities, and bringing ideas to life in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
  • Create, schedule, and manage engaging, on-brand content across Heartland's social media platforms.
  • Support the development and execution of Heartland's social media and marketing strategies.
  • Promote Heartland's programs, services, events, campaigns, and community initiatives through digital and print channels.
  • Develop and coordinate newsletters, email communications, flyers, digital graphics, and other marketing materials.
  • Help maintain consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
  • Identify opportunities to increase awareness, engagement, and community reach.

Events & Community Engagement
  • Assist with the planning, promotion, and execution of Heartland's signature events, including but not limited to, The Legacy Gala, Heartland Heroes Golf Classic and Trivialand Trivia Night.
  • Take the lead on assigned special events and fundraising initiatives, including the Mental Health Walk and Plant Bingo.
  • Coordinate outreach and promotional efforts with community partners, sponsors, and other organizations.
  • Provide on-site event support and assist with event logistics, materials, communications, and execution.
  • Represent Heartland professionally at community events and organizational activities.

Donor & Fundraising Support
  • Maintain accurate donor information and records within Bloomerang.
  • Assist with donor and sponsor communications and follow-up.
  • Support basic reporting, tracking, and organization of donor engagement and fundraising activities.
  • Assist with promotional materials and communications for fundraising campaigns and initiatives.

Podcast & Special Projects
  • Assist with coordination, promotion, and content support for Heartland's podcast.
  • Support special marketing projects, campaigns, and organizational initiatives as assigned.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify and share stories that highlight Heartland's programs, people, and impact.

Qualifications
  • Experience or strong interest in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit work, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication practices.
  • Highly organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Creative, collaborative, and comfortable working independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build positive relationships with donors, sponsors, community partners, volunteers, and the public.
  • Passion for Heartland's mission and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the Siouxland community.
  • Experience with Canva, Bloomerang or other CRM platforms, email marketing tools, website content management systems, or social media scheduling platforms is a plus.
