Job description

Senior Scientist II, Data Solutions – Sales – RWE & Insights focuses on cultivating and growing partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients to support their research, clinical, and commercial programs. The role works closely with customers to develop targeted solutions that leverage Tempus products and services in data.

Responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed revenue goals for the assigned product line while delivering on established strategic objectives for specific client accounts.
  • Build relationships with R&D and commercial executives at partner organizations, enabling the identification, development, and support for additional value‑creation opportunities.
  • Develop a deep scientific understanding of customer pipelines and commercial objectives.
  • Deploy a consultative approach to understand where Tempus products/services can meaningfully impact performance against clients’ R&D and/or commercial objectives; drive impetus for adoption of Tempus products/services.
  • Proactively develop and implement scientific strategies and reports to drive and progress customer engagement and become a trusted scientific advisor.
  • Communicate the scientific and technical plans and outcomes to a cross‑functional group of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Partner with the Account Team (Key Account Directors, Alliance Management, Operations) to ensure success against the opportunity pipeline.
  • Collaborate with Alliance Management and Operations to manage existing business and identify new opportunities for account growth.
  • Track progress against defined strategic objectives and revenue goals; review progress/setbacks frequently with the broader Account Team and Tempus Leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of the Life Sciences portfolio by providing feedback to Leadership regarding client responses and suggestions; maintain a solution‑oriented mindset.
  • Stay informed on pharmaceutical industry, regulatory environment, emerging policy developments, and client priorities.
  • Travel approximately 30% of working time, domestically and internationally.
Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD in a quantitative field such as Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Biometrics, or Data Science for Health, or a biological/medical field such as Cancer Biology, Human Disease, Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology, or Immunology.
  • 2+ years of post‑graduate experience in data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, epidemiology, immunology, public health, or related fields.
  • Computational skills using SQL, Python, and R, including statistical tools and visualization packages.
  • Experience with clinical trial design and/or real‑world evidence datasets.
  • Experience with integrative methods to model multi‑modal clinical and/or omics data.
  • Proactive mindset bridging ideas to implementable solutions, with the ability to move stakeholders quickly.
  • Proven ability to build deep relationships with pharmaceutical stakeholders based on common scientific understanding.
  • Deep knowledge of drug discovery, translational research, or real‑world evidence methodologies, specifically in oncology.
  • Experience in agile environments and comfort with rapid iterations.
  • Exceptional account‑management skills, articulation of issues, and ability to navigate a wide range of stakeholders to solve problems.
  • Minimum 5+ years as a hands‑on scientist in a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years working with companies that serve Life Sciences companies in research & development or real‑world data.
  • Experience in a selling role with a quota.
  • Advanced degree (PhD or MD) in a relevant discipline.
Salary & Benefits
  • Expected salary range: $120,000‑$180,000 (Illinois); may vary for other locations such as California, Colorado, and New York.
