Cold Technology is a premier engineering and design-build firm leading the Mid-Atlantic region in turn-key systems integration for the supermarket and food retail industries. For over four decades, our philosophy has been to design environments that operate as efficiently and reliably as possible. We handle complex engineering, layout design, and implementation for major regional grocery brands and independent co-ops. As our project pipeline expands, we are seeking a technically sharp Electrical Engineer/Designer to join our collaborative design team.


Job Description:

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer / Technical Designer who understands the complex electrical infrastructure of a commercial retail food environment. You will be responsible for creating scaled floor plans, designing efficient ambient and case lighting systems, and planning equipment circuitry. This position gives you the opportunity to expand your electrical design footprint while working directly with multi-disciplined teams of mechanical engineers, structural partners, and retail clients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing AutoCAD to create precise floor plans, layout electrical equipment maps, and map out power paths for extensive retail sales floors and backrooms.
  • Designing and laying out complete store lighting schemes, case lighting integrations, and emergency pathway lighting with an emphasis on energy efficiency and architectural aesthetics.
  • Drafting detailed power plans, point-to-point circuitry connections, and equipment location schematics showing exact clearances and load dimensions.
  • Conducting physical, in-store field surveys and facility walkdowns to identify, audit, and document existing electrical distribution panels, pathways, and utility connections.
  • Interfacing directly with electrical contractors, equipment manufacturing vendors, and project managers to review drawings and adjust schematics to fit real-world field conditions.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience Requirement: 3+ years of electrical design, power layout mapping, or technical drafting experience specifically focused within commercial supermarkets, retail environments, or related multi-system commercial buildings.
  • Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD is strictly required. Hands-on project experience utilizing Revit or equivalent 3D modeling environments is a significant plus.
  • Core Skills: Strong understanding of technical drawing principals, national/local electrical code layouts, and the ability to visualize structural pathways without digital aid.
  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Technical Drafting, or a High School Diploma coupled with equivalent deep technical electrical design experience.
