What is digital trade?

Digital trade refers to the exchange of goods and services using digital platforms and technologies. This includes the online buying and selling of products, digital delivery of services, and the use of digital payments and data flows to facilitate international commerce. Digital trade also encompasses issues such as data privacy, cross-border data transfers, and digital regulations. The growth of e-commerce and digital services has made digital trade a vital part of the global economy, enabling businesses and consumers to connect and transact across borders more efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in digital trade?

To excel in Digital Trade, professionals need a strong understanding of international commerce, e-commerce platforms, digital marketing, and data analytics, often supported by a business or related degree. Familiarity with global trade regulations, digital transaction systems, and tools like SAP, Shopify, or Salesforce is frequently required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and adaptability help individuals navigate cross-cultural negotiations and fast-changing digital environments. These competencies are crucial for driving growth, ensuring compliance, and building successful global digital trade operations.

What are the main challenges faced by professionals working in digital trade roles and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Digital Trade often encounter challenges such as navigating complex international regulations, ensuring cybersecurity in digital transactions, and staying updated with rapidly evolving e-commerce technologies. Addressing these challenges typically involves ongoing professional development, close collaboration with legal and IT teams, and proactive monitoring of regulatory changes in different markets. Building strong cross-functional relationships and investing in continuous learning can help digital trade professionals stay effective and compliant in this dynamic field.

Job Purpose

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is seeking an Associate Director of Digital Marketing to provide senior-level digital marketing strategy, performance analysis, and cross-functional coordination to the Marketing, Development, Education, and Events teams. Working with show marketing teams, channel specialists, external media partners, vendors, and organizational leadership, this role helps ensure digital strategies are coordinated, data-informed, and aligned with broader campaign and organizational goals.

This position is designed for someone who understands digital marketing as an integrated ecosystem, including paid media, email, social media, content, creator/influencer activity, analytics, revenue pacing, and conversion behavior, and is ready to guide the way into generative engine optimization. Paid media, because of its importance to touring theatre campaigns and its need for active interpretation, coordination, and performance review, is a significant area of focus for this role.

Working with show marketing teams, channel specialists, external media partners, vendors, and organizational leadership, the Associate Director contributes through strategic thought partnership, informed recommendations, performance monitoring, stakeholder coordination, vendor accountability, executive communication, and the development of actionable post-campaign insights.

And within the Digital Marketing team, it is expected this role will provide leadership through expertise, communication, mentorship, and cross-functional influence. The role is also expected to provide team-wide coverage when needed, supporting or temporarily assuming channel responsibilities during periods of high workload, planned absences, or other capacity constraints.

Success in this role will come from broad digital fluency, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to identify opportunities and risks and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative digital marketing support and practical problem-solving assistance to show marketing teams, development officers, internal channel specialists, and organizational leaders, using relevant experience and data to evaluate options and make informed recommendations.
  • Help evaluate digital marketing opportunities across paid media, email, social media, SEO, content, GEO, influencer activity, and campaign moments.
  • Advise stakeholders on how digital tactics can best support broader marketing goals, campaign timing, audience priorities, content availability, and sales needs.
  • Help translate campaign goals into practical digital marketing recommendations that fit within the larger show marketing framework.
  • Support teams in evaluating platform fit, audience approach, messaging alignment, campaign phasing, and tactical trade-offs.
  • Help stakeholders understand the strategic value, limits, risks, and appropriate use cases of different digital channels and tactics.
  • Provide informed critique when proposed digital tactics are misaligned, under-supported, duplicative, poorly timed, or unlikely to advance campaign goals.
Cross-Functional Digital Coordination
  • Serve as a senior coordinating resource across digital marketing activity, including channels and teams.
  • Maintain awareness of multiple active campaigns and identify conflicts, timing issues, audience overlap, message fatigue, or competing calls to action.
  • Flag opportunities to coordinate digital activity with press hits, content releases, email sends, organic social moments, influencer activity, promotions, sales urgency, or other campaign milestones.
  • Help ensure digital work does not happen in disconnected channel silos but instead supports the broader campaign ecosystem.
  • Connect internal teams and external partners when performance signals or campaign opportunities require cross-functional response.
  • Support clearer communication between show marketing teams, producers, vendors, media buyers, and internal execution teams.
  • Provide senior digital marketing coverage when leadership is unavailable or when a situation requires a more elevated perspective.
  • Advise show marketing teams on paid media opportunities, platform selection, audience approach, phasing, timing, content alignment, and budget considerations.
  • Review proposed paid media plans and recommendations for strategic clarity, data support, relevance, and alignment with campaign goals.
  • Partner with external media buyers by championing the organization, asking, informed questions, and helping clarify the intended role of paid media within the broader marketing plan.
  • Evaluate performance reporting to ensure it goes beyond activity summaries and includes actionable interpretation, risks, opportunities, and recommended next steps.
  • Identify when media buyer recommendations are too generic, insufficiently supported, overly platform-driven, or disconnected from ticket sales, revenue pacing, conversion behavior, or broader campaign activity.
  • Help stakeholders understand the difference between strong platform performance and meaningful marketing or business performance.
  • Support vendor conversations and negotiations where digital marketing expertise, campaign context, or senior-level representation is needed.

Live Campaign Monitoring & Performance Interpretation

  • Monitor active digital campaign performance using available media reports, ticket sales, revenue, pacing data, conversion data, Google Analytics, email performance, social performance, web behavior, and other relevant signals.
  • Identify underperformance, overperformance, audience weakness, creative fatigue, conversion issues, timing concerns, channel conflict, or misalignment between digital metrics and business outcomes.
  • Alert appropriate stakeholders when performance data suggests a need for review, adjustment, escalation, additional analysis, or vendor follow-up.
  • Help diagnose whether performance issues are likely related to audience targeting, messaging, creative, timing, platform choice, conversion path, content availability, budget allocation, channel coordination, or external campaign context.
  • Recommend practical next steps while campaigns are live, such as adjusting digital emphasis, revisiting audience segments, coordinating with email or social activity, requesting additional vendor analysis, refreshing content, changing timing, or escalating a concern.
  • Identify moments of overperformance or unexpected traction and recommend ways to amplify those opportunities across digital channels.

Post-Campaign Analysis & Learning

  • Support post-campaign analysis across digital channels and other available marketing signals.
  • Translate campaign results into clear, practical guidance about what worked, what did not, what remains uncertain, and what should inform future campaigns.
  • Help show marketing teams understand key distinctions between platform metrics, marketing performance, audience behavior, conversion performance, and business outcomes.
  • Identify broader learnings across campaigns, including recurring digital patterns, channel strengths and weaknesses, content implications, timing considerations, vendor performance issues, and coordination opportunities.
  • Contribute to an internal knowledge base of digital marketing learnings, platform use cases, campaign patterns, tactical considerations, and performance implications.
  • Bring a working understanding of digital marketing channels and how they work together to build awareness, engage audiences, influence consideration, and drive conversion.
  • Provide strategic input to internal email, social, web, or content teams when campaign performance data suggests implications for messaging, timing, segmentation, creative emphasis, or channel coordination.
  • Represent the audience’s perspective in meetings, vendor conversations, executive updates, etc. with data-informed guidance.
  • Lead or support designated digital marketing programs where explicitly assigned, which may include content partnerships, influencer marketing, vendor relationships, contracts, budgets, or campaign-specific initiatives.
  • Help raise the overall quality of digital marketing decision-making across clients and internal teams.
  • The schedule for this position may vary and may require hours outside of the standard work week, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Broad working and hands on knowledge of digital marketing disciplines, including paid media, email, social media, SEO, GEO, web performance, content, analytics, and campaign measurement.
  • Experience working with and interpreting campaign performance data, including ticket sales, revenue pacing, conversion data, Google Analytics, CRM data, email metrics, paid media reports, and social performance data, and translating insights into practical recommendations.
  • Experience working with external vendors, media buyers, agencies, clients, or cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to evaluate digital marketing activity in relation to broader business or campaign goals.
  • Experience communicating recommendations to both tactical and senior stakeholders.
