This is a fully on-site position, five days a week, with routine after-hours work including weekends and holidays.

What the Role Covers
  • Editing a variety of stories including breaking news, features, enterprise pieces, and articles on AI, innovation, research, experiential learning, teaching, and campus life
  • Planning the news agenda, assigning stories, and setting schedules
  • Managing content production, news flow, and deadline enforcement
  • Helping supervise a team of staff writers
  • Crafting compelling, SEO-friendly headlines and captions
  • Working closely with reporters to evaluate and refine story pitches, shape coverage, and maintain high standards of accuracy
  • Helping reporters develop reliable sources and maintain strong relationships across the university community
  • Collaborating with media relations, social media, and multimedia teams to enhance stories with data, graphics, photos, and video
  • Monitoring analytics and audience metrics to inform reporting and follow-up coverage
  • Fact-checking thoroughly and adhering to editorial guidelines
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of editing and management experience with a commercial daily news organization (digital or print)
  • Demonstrated ability to edit a wide range of stories with speed and accuracy
  • Experience assigning stories and managing content production
  • Strong source-building skills
  • Experience using AI tools
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Experience interpreting public documents, filings, and data
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and respond quickly to developing stories
Preferred
  • Familiarity with digital publishing tools
  • Experience with multimedia or video reporting
  • Data journalism or basic visual storytelling skills
  • Knowledge of SEO and audience engagement strategies
