NRECA is a unique national trade association providing advocacy, financial services and business support services to over 900 consumer owned electric cooperatives across the country. Summary of Position
NRECA's communications and marketing department is a central hub of the association and is responsible for shaping external, internal and member communications and marketing efforts. The department works to tell the modern electric cooperative story, positively influence the perception of cooperatives with inside-the-beltway policymakers, elevate the organization's brand and showcase the value of NRECA membership. The communications and marketing team works closely with NRECA's C-suite, and partners with departments across the organization like Government Relations, Business and Technology Strategy, Education, Training and Events, and more. Collaboration, creativity, and passion drive the team to consistently achieve success and help build a better tomorrow for electric cooperatives across the nation.This position is eligible for NRECA's hybrid schedule, which allows flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per/week.
This role ensures NRECA's online editorial content is engaging, accurate, up to date and strategic, while responsibly integrating artificial intelligence tools to enhance efficiency, quality and audience engagement. The position will work closely with the RE (Rural Electric) Magazine Editor and Senior Manager of Editorial to optimize content for assigned NRECA digital properties and to evaluate and guide the evolving use of AI in editorial workflows, content optimization and analytics, and assist with editing and proofreading of editorial content. This position is eligible for NRECA's hybrid schedule, which allows flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per/week.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with communications team to publish and update web editorial content efficiently and on deadline.
  • Adapt print magazine content for digital platforms, ensuring strong presentation and usability.
  • Lead Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and audience engagement strategy across editorial content.
  • Support development and production of editorial newsletters.
  • Create and coordinate multimedia elements (infographics, photo galleries, and visual assets).
  • Copyedit and proofread content to meet editorial standards and ensure accuracy.
  • Publish and manage content within Content Management System (CMS), ensuring compliance with organizational processes and standards.
  • Analyze digital performance using Google Analytics and other tools; contribute to reporting and insights.
  • Provide quality assurance for web content and liaise with technical teams on site performance, bugs, and enhancements.
  • Support editorial leadership and special initiatives (e.g., photo challenge program) and provide flexible team support as needed.
  • Ability to report to the office when required.

Qualifications
Required Education, Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field
  • 8+ years web producer experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in a full range of online communications approaches, tools, and methodologies.
  • Experience with multiple web content management systems, such as WordPress, Sitecore, Adobe CQ5 and Drupal.
  • Expertise in SEO, mobile optimization, and digital audience engagement, with ability to use analytics tools to evaluate performance and trends.
  • Excellent writing, copyediting, and visual content skills, including AP style proficiency and image editing (e.g., Photoshop).
  • Solid understanding of strategic communications and how content supports audience needs and organizational goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills, with demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mobile strategies and implementation is desired.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Salary Range: $120,000-$147,000 annual salary
Final compensation determined by individual qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
