Position Description
The Project Manager supports the successful planning and execution of highway construction projects by assisting with technical coordination, documentation, field support, and project controls. This position serves as a critical link between the office and the field, helping ensure that construction activities are properly tracked, reported, and aligned with plans, specifications, and schedules. The Project Manager works closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to help deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead scheduling, resource planning, and coordination of all construction activities for assigned projects.
  • Direct superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers to meet project goals and contractual obligations.
  • Monitor and control daily production quantities, labor, materials, and equipment use to ensure efficiency and budget compliance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with owners, engineers, and key stakeholders; maintain strong client relationships.
  • Interpret project plans and specifications, approve layout strategies, and resolve technical issues in the field.
  • Oversee subcontractor and supplier performance, ensuring timely submittals, deliverables, and compliance with agreements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting notes, and compliance records.
  • Prepare, review, and approve pay applications, quantity summaries, and cost reports; forecast and manage budgets.
  • Track project progress against schedules and budgets; implement corrective actions to avoid delays or overruns.
  • Ensure project compliance with DOT specifications, safety regulations, and company quality standards.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to assess progress, identify risks, and coordinate with field leadership.
  • Utilize project management software and tools to generate reports, progress maps, and production tracking.
  • Maintain digital and paper filing systems per company and client requirements.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch lists, final documentation, and client turnover.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proactively communicate goals, purpose, and proposed changes to the supervisor to ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Cross-train with team members and perform additional duties as needed.

Work Environment
  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Split between project offices, job sites, and occasional visits to the main office.
  • May involve early mornings, extended hours, or weekend work depending on project needs.
  • Frequent collaboration with field supervisors, subcontractors, Managers, and agency representatives.

Position Requirements
General

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in heavy civil or highway construction project support roles; internship experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with DOT construction standards, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, plan-reading tools, scheduling software (P6) and project documentation software.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, and specifications.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Bilingual: fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is a plus.
