What is a digital operations engineer?

A Digital Operations Engineer is a professional responsible for managing, optimizing, and automating the digital systems and processes within an organization. They ensure that digital platforms, applications, and infrastructure operate efficiently and reliably. Their role often includes monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, deploying updates, and working with IT and development teams to streamline digital workflows. Digital Operations Engineers play a key part in supporting digital transformation initiatives and maintaining high service availability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital operations engineer?

To thrive as a Digital Operations Engineer, you need a solid background in IT systems, network management, and troubleshooting, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with automation tools (such as Ansible or Jenkins), cloud platforms (like AWS or Azure), and monitoring systems (such as Nagios or Splunk) is typically required, along with relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+. Engineering Solutions Systems Administrator (TeamCenter)

Hermeus

Job description

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role:

As an Engineering Solutions Systems Administrator (TeamCenter), you will support and scale our Siemens Teamcenter environment across Engineering and Manufacturing operations. This is a highly operational, user-facing role focused on Teamcenter administration, engineering workflow support, release management, troubleshooting, engineering data integrity, and continuous process improvement. While the role will support Siemens NX users and CAD-related workflows, the primary focus is Teamcenter operations and enabling efficient engineering data management across the organization.

You will work directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Digital Operations teams to ensure Teamcenter remains reliable, scalable, and operationally effective as the company continues to grow. This is not a passive ticket-based support role. The ideal candidate is comfortable troubleshooting complex operational issues, observing real user behavior, improving workflows, supporting releases, administering system configurations, and proactively identifying opportunities to reduce engineering friction and improving processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer, configure, maintain, and scale Teamcenter, Active Workspace, Dispatcher, and NX managed-mode environments.
  • Manage users, permissions, workflows, BOMs, engineering data, release processes, change control, and configuration governance.
  • Troubleshoot platform and integration issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement scalable solutions.
  • Partner across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Digital Operations to improve usability and efficiency.
  • Support upgrades, deployments, validation, training, documentation, and integrations with ERP, MES, and other enterprise systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes, strengthen the digital thread, and improve engineering data consistency.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Siemens Teamcenter in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Teamcenter administration, workflows, engineering data structures, release processes, and configuration management concepts.
  • Experience troubleshooting operational Teamcenter issues involving workflows, datasets, BOMs, ownership, access, integrations, and engineering data management.
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX managed-mode environments and CAD/PLM integrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, rapidly evolving engineering environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering data integrity and process consistency.
  • Interest in continuously improving engineering systems, workflows, and operational scalability.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience supporting Teamcenter integrations with ERP, MES, or enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Familiarity with Teamcenter Dispatcher, workflows, engineering release automation, and engineering change processes.
  • Exposure to Teamcenter ITK, APIs, BMIDE, Active Workspace, or customization frameworks.
  • Aerospace, defense, or complex hardware manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with SQL, reporting tools, enterprise data environments, or digital thread initiatives.
  • Experience supporting enterprise digital transformation or engineering systems modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to PMI, MBD, CAD automation, or model-based engineering initiatives.
  • Motivated by solving operational challenges with scalable technology solutions.
Compensation:

$136,000 - $226,550 a year. The salary information provided is a general guideline only. Hermeus takes various factors into account, including, but not limited to, the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's professional background, education and training, essential skills, and market and business considerations, when presenting a job offer.

Benefits:
  • 100% employer-paid health care
  • Pet insurance
  • 401k & Retirement Plans
  • Stock Options
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Unlimited PTO (exempt) and generous accrued PTO (non-exempt), plus 12 federal holidays off
  • Weekly Paid Office Lunches
  • Fully stocked breakrooms
  • End of Year Bonuses
  • Competitive base pay and equity, potential year-end bonuses, and more!
  • Other benefits as described in compensation section
