  1. SCOPE OF ROLE:
  2. Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is seeking a detailoriented, creative, and proactive intern to support the Marketing Communications department in two core areas: organizing and maintaining our digital media libraries and assisting with social media content creation and channel management. This internship offers handson experience in digital asset management, content strategy, and visual storytelling while contributing to the visibility of a missiondriven organization supporting New Yorkers in need.

 

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern will collaborate closely with the Marketing Communications team to:

  • Audit media libraries — Review existing photo, video, and graphic assets within our archive.
  • Organize and consolidate files — Create a unified, easytonavigate structure for all media assets.
  • Apply metadata and naming conventions — Improve searchability and consistency across the library.
  • Identify duplicates and outdated assets — Flag items for review and archival decisions.
  • Update documentation — Support the creation or refinement of media management processes.
  • Assist with curated collections — Prepare asset sets for campaigns, events, and storytelling needs.
  • Draft and schedule social media content — Support posting across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, and TikTok.
  • Monitor engagement — Track comments, messages, and interactions.
  • Research content ideas — Identify trends, awareness months, and campaignaligned opportunities.
  • Maintain the content calendar — Track deadlines and upcoming posts.
  • Capture photos and shortform video — Visit S:US program sites across NYC to gather visual content (travel required)
  • Collect stories and quotes — Document lived experiences respectfully and in alignment with consent guidelines.
  • Assist with analytics — Support monthly performance summaries.

Deliverables

  • A fully updated and organized digital media library with standardized naming and tagging.
  • Updated documentation or a brief guide for future asset management practices.
  • Weekly drafted social media posts (copy + suggested visuals).
  • A collection of photo/video assets from events or site visits.
  • A curated set of story-based content elements (quotes, short narratives, or interview notes) gathered from program participants or staff, with appropriate permissions.
  • Monthly engagement and performance summaries of social media strategy.

Support & Training

  • Training on S:US media storage systems and organizational standards.
  • Editorial guidelines, brand assets, messaging frameworks, and scheduling tools.
  • Access to staff who can provide historical context for assets and content categories.
  • Ongoing mentorship from the Marketing Communications team.

  1. REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, library science, or related program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort working with large volumes of digital files.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management, social media platforms, and emerging digital trends.
  • Strong writing skills and an understanding of tone, voice, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience with basic photo/video capture and editing.
  • Proactive, detailoriented, and comfortable collaborating across departments.
  • Interest in nonprofit communications and missiondriven storytelling.
