Job description

Director Marketing Technology/Digital Marketing Leader (Remote)

Chicago preferred

  • Are you a hands-on digital marketing leader who is just as comfortable challenging agency strategy as you are diving into analytics, SEO, paid search, and tech stack?
  • Do you enjoy collaborating with multiple vendors to drive measurable results in B2C lead-generation?

We are seeking a Digital Marketing leader to develop and implement the digital marketing strategy for a growing, multi-location organization. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for maximizing lead generation, improving conversion quality, and optimizing marketing technology while managing a network of specialized agency partners.

You will be expected to understand the technical details, ask the right questions, hold agencies accountable, and step in personally when needed.

Location

This is a remote position within the United States.

Candidates should ideally be located in the Midwest or Chicago area, although exceptional candidates from other regions will be considered. Regular travel to the Chicago area is required for leadership meetings, strategic planning sessions, and collaboration with executive leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute the organization’s digital marketing strategy across multiple locations.
  • Manage relationships with five specialized marketing agencies covering paid search, SEO, paid social, conversion optimization, and related digital disciplines.
  • Ensure every agency is aligned toward common business goals while eliminating gaps and duplication between partners.
  • Hold agencies accountable through performance metrics, reporting, and ROI analysis.
  • Manage a digital advertising budget of approximately $150,000 per month.
  • Analyze campaign performance, attribution data, customer behavior, and conversion metrics to identify growth opportunities.
  • Drive improvements in lead quality, cost per lead, and enrollment performance.
  • Partner with executive leadership to establish digital marketing priorities and investment strategies.
  • Roll up your sleeves to troubleshoot technical marketing issues, evaluate new platforms, and optimize campaign performance.
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert for digital marketing technologies and best practices.

What Makes This Role Different

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys operating at both the strategic and tactical levels.

You’ll spend your time:

  • Translating business goals into measurable digital marketing strategies.
  • Connecting insights across multiple marketing agencies rather than managing a single in-house team.
  • Leveraging analytics and marketing technology to improve business outcomes.
  • Being hands-on with digital marketing tools instead of simply reviewing reports.
  • Influencing executive decisions through data and measurable results.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in marketing technology.
  • Deep expertise in SEO and paid search.
  • A background in B2C or DTC lead generation for multiple locations.
  • A background generating and optimizing high-volume B2C or DTC lead generation campaigns for multi-location, multi-market businesses.
  • Experience managing multiple external marketing agencies simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing technology, analytics platforms, attribution, and conversion optimization.
  • Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and translate insights into action.
  • Experience managing significant digital advertising budgets.
  • Comfortable working independently in a lean organization where leaders remain hands-on.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence agency partners and executive leadership.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, marketing automation, web analytics, and performance reporting tools.
  • Experience evaluating marketing technology and integrating digital platforms to improve efficiency and reporting.
  • Expertise using Zapier.

Success in This Role

You’ll be successful if you can:

  • Increase organic lead generation.
  • Improve lead quality and conversion performance.
  • Drive measurable improvements in digital marketing ROI.
  • Create accountability across multiple agency partners.
  • Build a connected marketing technology ecosystem that provides clear visibility into performance and business impact.

If you’re a strategic digital marketer who enjoys combining technology, analytics, agency leadership, and hands-on execution, we’d love to hear from you.

To apply, please submit your resume for consideration.
