Job description

Senior ELA Learning Designer
Location: 5 Days onsite in Austin, TX 

Our client is an innovative learning technology company focused on helping students build academic and life skills through engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences. They are seeking a Senior ELA Learning Designer to help build their English Language Arts curriculum and digital learning product from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-quality ELA lessons, practice exercises, and assessments for grades 3–6.
  • Create learning progressions aligned with cognitive development, prerequisite knowledge, and academic standards.
  • Anticipate common student misconceptions and develop instructional pathways to address learning gaps.
  • Apply science of reading principles to ensure content is evidence-based and effective.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, design, and behavioral science teams to create engaging digital learning experiences.
  • Incorporate motivational learning frameworks, including growth mindset and self-determination principles, into content design.
  • Utilize learning science concepts such as cognitive load theory, mastery learning, and scaffolded instruction.
  • Leverage AI and generative AI tools to improve content creation workflows and scalability.
  • Review and refine AI-generated content for accuracy, developmental appropriateness, and standards alignment.
  • Build repeatable systems and processes for creating large-scale content libraries efficiently.
  • Translate classroom teaching expertise into effective digital pedagogy and interactive learning experiences.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of classroom teaching experience in grades 3–6 English Language Arts.
  • Experience working directly on an edtech or digital content product team.
  • Strong instructional design background with demonstrated experience creating lessons, assessments, and learning sequences.
  • Deep understanding of literacy development, science of reading principles, learning progressions, and common student misconceptions.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create engaging content for students and educators.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including designers, engineers, and product stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects forward with limited direction.
  • Passion for educational innovation and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing content for adaptive or personalized learning platforms.
