Professionals in this field work on virtual garments for gaming, metaverse platforms, digital marketing, and even fashion NFTs. They collaborate with designers, developers, and brands to innovate fashion experiences beyond the physical world. This role requires skills in software like CLO 3D, Blender, or Marvelous Designer, combined with an understanding of fashion trends and digital ecosystems.

What does a digital fashion professional do?

A day in Digital Fashion often involves conceptualizing new garment designs, creating digital illustrations or 3D models, and collaborating with other designers or marketing teams. Professionals regularly use industry-standard design software to develop virtual prototypes, refine textures, and present their concepts to stakeholders. They may also research emerging trends in fashion technology, optimize digital assets for use in virtual environments, or coordinate with developers to ensure digital garments are compatible with various platforms. This mix of creative and technical tasks ensures each day brings fresh challenges and opportunities to innovate in the digital fashion space.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in digital fashion?

Success in Digital Fashion requires a blend of fashion design expertise, digital illustration skills, and a strong grasp of 3D modeling or virtual design software, often supported by a relevant degree in fashion, design, or digital arts. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CLO 3D, or Blender, and experience with digital asset management, are commonly expected. Creativity, adaptability, and strong collaboration skills are essential for excelling in this innovative industry. These skills are crucial for creating compelling virtual garments and experiences that meet client needs and keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital fashion landscape.

  • Identify and prioritize opportunities across acquisition, merchandising, promotions, personalization, partnerships, and emerging digital channels.
  • Use customer, market, and competitive insights to uncover scalable growth opportunities.
  • Own performance targets and establish disciplined forecasting, reporting, and optimization practices.
  • Lead high-impact initiatives that challenge existing approaches and accelerate growth.

Digital Marketing & Performance

  • Drive performance across paid media, organic acquisition, affiliate, influencer, CRM, and emerging channels.
  • Manage key performance indicators including ROAS, CAC, MER, contribution margin, conversion rate, and customer lifetime value.
  • Direct agency and partner relationships with clear goals, test plans, reporting expectations, and accountability.
  • Identify new audiences, acquisition opportunities, and innovative marketing programs.

  • Own the digital customer journey from homepage and product discovery through checkout and post-purchase engagement.
  • Improve site navigation, search, mobile experience, speed, checkout flow, personalization, and accessibility.
  • Build a culture of continuous testing through A/B experiments, funnel analysis, behavioral analytics, and user experience research.
  • Identify friction points and implement improvements that strengthen engagement and conversion.

Digital Merchandising

  • Lead a digital merchandising strategy that improves product discovery, storytelling, engagement, and conversion.
  • Partner with merchandising, creative, and product teams on product launches, seasonal campaigns, promotions, product detail pages, photography, video, and styling.
  • Use performance data and customer insights to optimize assortment visibility, product ranking, and promotional activity.

CRM & Retention

  • Develop lifecycle marketing programs across email, SMS, loyalty, VIP, personalization, and win-back campaigns.
  • Increase repeat purchase, customer engagement, and long-term customer value.
  • Establish segmentation, testing, and measurement practices that improve retention performance over time.

Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing ecommerce and digital growth team.
  • Manage internal teams, agencies, technology partners, and key vendors.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, experimentation, speed, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate priorities, performance, risks, and opportunities clearly to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive ecommerce, digital growth, and performance marketing leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success scaling ecommerce revenue and profitability with measurable business results.
  • Experience leading growth beyond day-to-day ecommerce operations, including strategic planning and organizational development.
  • Deep expertise in Shopify or comparable ecommerce platforms, paid media, CRM, digital merchandising, conversion optimization, and analytics.
  • Experience managing substantial digital marketing budgets and agency relationships.
  • Strong commercial judgment, analytical rigor, and a data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and executive presence.

Preferred Background

  • Premium, contemporary, luxury, or direct-to-consumer apparel and fashion experience.
  • Experience with women's apparel, occasionwear, omnichannel retail, or department store brands.
  • Proven ability to combine brand stewardship with performance-oriented digital growth.
