What is a digital experience designer?

A Digital Experience Designer is a professional who creates engaging and effective user experiences across digital platforms, such as websites, mobile apps, and interactive products. Their work involves understanding user needs, designing intuitive interfaces, and collaborating with developers and stakeholders to ensure seamless digital interactions. They use tools like wireframes, prototypes, and user research to optimize the look, feel, and functionality of digital products. The goal is to make digital experiences enjoyable, accessible, and user-friendly.

How does a digital experience designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Digital Experience Designers regularly work alongside product managers, developers, marketers, and researchers to ensure that digital products are user-friendly and aligned with business goals. They often participate in brainstorming sessions, provide wireframes or prototypes, and gather feedback through user testing. Effective communication and an openness to feedback are essential, as designers must balance user needs with technical and business constraints. Collaboration tools like Figma, Miro, and Slack are commonly used to streamline teamwork and keep everyone aligned throughout the design process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital experience designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digital Experience Designer, you need a solid background in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, along with proficiency in design principles and a relevant degree or certification. Expertise with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and prototyping platforms is typically required. Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills help you translate user needs into engaging digital experiences. These skills and qualities are crucial for creating intuitive, effective, and visually appealing digital products that meet both user and business objectives.

What is the difference between Digital Experience Designer vs User Experience Designer?

AspectDigital Experience DesignerUser Experience Designer
FocusDesigning comprehensive digital interactions across platforms, including websites, apps, and digital touchpointsOptimizing user interactions primarily within websites and apps to improve usability and satisfaction
SkillsUI/UX design, digital strategy, prototyping, cross-platform designUsability testing, wireframing, user research, interaction design
Work EnvironmentDesign agencies, tech companies, digital marketing firmsWeb development firms, tech companies, startups

While both roles focus on enhancing user interactions, Digital Experience Designers take a broader approach by designing seamless digital experiences across multiple platforms, whereas User Experience Designers primarily concentrate on usability within specific websites or apps. The roles often overlap, but Digital Experience Designers typically require skills in digital strategy and cross-platform design, making them suitable for projects involving multiple digital touchpoints.

Job description

ABOUT THIS JOBThis opening is for a 2027 start date.

We are seeking a versatile Associate, Digital Experience Designer to join the Martech & Digital Infrastructure team in the Wealth Management Marketing team, supporting both the Private Wealth Management (PWM) and Goldman Sachs Ayco (Ayco) businesses. This is a hybrid design and execution role, sitting at the intersection of UX design, webpage authoring, email design support, and conversion testing implementation where you'd be supporting the full digital experience lifecycle across PWM and Ayco.

This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable designing in Figma or a CMS as they are supporting the implementation of A/B test variants - a combination that makes them a high-impact contributor across the team.

OUR IMPACT

Across Wealth Management, Goldman Sachs helps empower clients and customers around the world to reach their financial goals. Our advisor-led wealth management businesses provide financial planning, investment management, banking and comprehensive advice to a wide range of clients, including ultra-high net worth and high net worth individuals, as well as family offices, foundations and endowments, and corporations and their employees. Our direct-to-consumer business provides digital solutions that help customers save and invest. Across Wealth Management, our growth is driven by a relentless focus on our people, our clients and customers, and leading-edge technology, data and design.

PWM

Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management (PWM) specializes in creating comprehensive wealth management plans for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, as well as select institutions, including foundations and endowments. PWM Teams work one-on-one with clients to advise and deliver customized strategies drawn from our deep investment experience, diverse wealth management capabilities, and global reach. Our Private Wealth Advisors (PWAs) deliver an unparalleled investment platform inclusive of the full product and service offerings of Goldman Sachs and beyond, which may include tax and estate planning, philanthropic planning, and private banking and lending services. As client needs evolve, this close relationship allows the team to offer complementary services and new opportunities by leveraging the resources of Goldman Sachs and beyond.

Ayco

Goldman Sachs Ayco specializes in financial planning with a focus on optimizing the value of benefits and compensation offered by clients' employers and wealth management for high-net-worth clients. We seek to help clients achieve more clarity around their financial picture; feel more confident they can use their money to live the life they want today, while they plan for tomorrow; and feel more in control. Our dedicated team of advisors and coaches, across approximately 110 offices throughout the U.S., build and implement financial plans with each client's values, priorities, and beliefs at the center. We work with clients to help navigate across seven key financial planning disciplines and access Goldman Sachs' 150+ years of financial experience.  As our clients' lives unfold, we help adjust their strategy, explain tradeoffs, and serve as a sounding board. Goldman Sachs Ayco seeks to help our clients minimize financial stress and maximize their return on life, today and tomorrow.

PWM Marketing & Martech

The PWM Martech & Digital Infrastructure team is the operational and analytical engine powering Wealth Management's digital ecosystem. We own and operate our enterprise digital platforms, spanning web experience, marketing automation, CRM, analytics and Email marketing and are responsible for every digital touchpoint from first prospect impression through the full user journey. We focus on building and optimizing digital experiences that engage ultra-high-net-worth prospects and clients across PWM and Ayco.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Associate, Digital Experience Designer is a core design and production execution role where supporting the design, authoring, and optimization of our website and email touchpoints spanning across UX design, component configuration, email design, and A/B test page implementation to ensure our digital touch points are polished, on-brand, and continuously improving.
