To thrive as a Digital Designer on contract, you need a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in visual design, UX/UI principles, and proficiency with design software like Adobe Creative Suite or Figma. Familiarity with prototyping tools, responsive design systems, and sometimes basic HTML/CSS is often expected, along with any relevant design certifications. Creativity, adaptability, effective communication, and time management are standout soft skills for collaborating with clients and meeting project deadlines. These skills ensure high-quality deliverables that meet client objectives in fast-paced, project-driven environments.

Contract Digital Designers often work closely with in-house teams, including developers, project managers, and marketing staff. Typically, they participate in regular check-ins, design reviews, and feedback sessions to ensure their work aligns with the company's brand and project goals. Effective communication and adaptability are essential, as contract designers may need to quickly integrate into existing workflows and adopt specific design tools or processes. Collaboration is usually facilitated through digital platforms like Slack, Figma, or Trello, allowing for seamless interaction even when working remotely.

What is a Digital Designer Contract?

A Digital Designer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based position where a digital designer is hired to create visual content for digital platforms such as websites, social media, or digital advertisements. Contractors typically work independently or through an agency, and their contracts outline the scope of work, timelines, and compensation. Senior Product Designer (Contract)

Momentum IO

Palo Alto, CA • On-site

Full-time

Posted 5 days ago

Job description

Momentum is not a place for narrow specialists. We are a true product design group: our designers move fluidly across the entire process-from hands-on research and insight gathering, to framing experience strategies, leading client workshops, crafting UX/UI systems, and embedding AI-driven thinking into product and service ecosystems.
As a Senior Product Designer, you will shape outcomes at the intersection of business analysis, service design, and digital product experience. This requires craft, confidence, and the ability to guide both teams and clients through complexity.
We are a global company, with clients and team members distributed across time zones, so flexibility in how and when you collaborate is essential for our integrated approach to succeed. This position can be hybrid or remote, but candidates must be available during working hours aligned with our Palo Alto, California office (PST time zone). Full-time work from the Palo Alto office is also an option. We welcome both full-time employees and contractors, and qualified international candidates within reasonable time zones are encouraged to apply.
Please provide a link to your portfolio in your resume or in your work experiences, including the password if applicable. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
About us:
Momentum helps global brands, fast-moving startups, and category leaders solve high-impact business challenges through product and service design.
Our work extends beyond digital interfaces. We design multi-channel, multi-touch experiences that integrate brand, experience, and value across physical, digital, and human interactions.
We are collaborators first-partnering with clients in workshops, research, and prototyping to uncover opportunities, reduce risk, and drive innovation. Each engagement is unique, but all are grounded in the same belief: design should create clarity, confidence, and transformation.
What You'll Work On:
Designers at Momentum move across industries, problems, and horizons. As a Senior Product Designer at Momentum, you may help:
  • Shape the future of mobility, exploring how people, vehicles, and services connect in new ecosystems
  • Reimagine neurosurgical planning through 3D, VR, AR, and AI-powered tools that support both pre-operative planning and live surgical procedures
  • Architect end-to-end telecom service experiences across digital and physical touchpoints
  • Build intelligent digital agents to combat misinformation in global health
  • Visualize and model strategies for billion-dollar venture portfolios, with AI-augmented insights
  • Design multi-channel healthcare journeys for patients, providers, and caregivers-personalized through AI orchestration and automation
  • Shape carbon-positive experiences through climate and sustainability platforms
  • Explore the frontier of AI-powered experiences-from automation to augmentation and beyond

Requirements
Who We're Looking For:
We are seeking designers who thrive across the full spectrum of product design-hands-on and strategic, analytical and creative, global and collaborative.
  • Experience - 4+ years of applicable product design experience with a portfolio that demonstrates both interaction and visual design at a high level of fidelity
  • Language - Excellent written and spoken English; this is a 100% English-speaking role
  • Fluency Across Stages - Skilled in research, synthesis, strategy, and UX/UI delivery; comfortable facilitating workshops and leading client conversations
  • AI IQ - Strong understanding of AI as both material and method. If you'd rate yourself a 4 or 5 (on a 1-5 scale), we want to talk. Skills in vibe coding, prompt engineering, agentic architectures, and rapid prototyping workflows are highly valued
  • Systems Thinking - Ability to design for the whole: ecosystems, organizations, and interactions that span channels and services
  • Business Acumen - Skilled at framing trade-offs and linking design decisions to measurable outcomes
  • Craft - Proficient in Figma and other design tools; able to create modular, scalable design systems and prototypes that bring clarity to complex problems
  • Collaboration - Comfortable in distributed, multi-time-zone teams; eager to learn from peers and share knowledge; able to work across industries and contexts with clients as true partners
  • Attributes - Curious, adaptable, empathetic, critical thinker who can defend design decisions with clarity and conviction
  • Mobility - Willingness to travel occasionally for client engagements or team activities (less than 20%)

Additional Skills
  • Creating and conducting User/Customer/Stakeholder interviews, Solution Validation Interviews, and Usability Testing
  • Conducting current state assessments inclusive of heuristic evaluations and your expert analysis.
  • Review and parse user research findings
  • Understand, conceptualize, create and communicate user mental models, personas, user flow diagrams, journey maps, and other information architecture deliverables.
  • Experimenting with motion, 3D, or emerging front-end technologies

Benefits
Designers at Momentum aren't locked into roles-they are empowered to shape outcomes across industries and touchpoints. No year is the same.
You'll gain:
  • Opportunities to influence products and services used by millions worldwide
  • Experience across startups, scale-ups, and Fortune 500 companies
  • Exposure to industries ranging from health to climate to finance
  • Collaboration with colleagues and clients across continents
  • The chance to experiment at the forefront of AI, design, and technology

The Perks:
  • Create Impact - Influence real-world products and services at scale
  • Work Across Boundaries - Expand your range with projects spanning industries and markets
  • Collaborate Globally - Learn how design operates across cultures and contexts
  • Experiment with AI - Push the edges of how AI transforms discovery, design, and delivery
  • Grow Continuously - Learn from peers in design, data, engineering, and business strategy

Competitive salary and benefits, diverse projects, and opportunities for global collaboration are part of the package. More importantly, you'll join a culture where design is treated as a core driver of business value and human experience.
If you're a designer who thrives across the full arc of product design-and who brings both craft and systems thinking-we'd like to meet you.
