The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma amp; Immunology (AAAAI) is a professional medical society dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology. With more than 7,000 members worldwide, AAAAI supports education, research, clinical care and advocacy to improve patient outcomes. Its work includes publishing leading scientific journals, hosting an annual scientific meeting, providing continuing medical education, advocating for issues impacting physician practice, funding research through its Foundation, and offering resources and tools for both clinicians and the public.
The Communications amp; Membership Department advances the AAAAI’s mission by engaging and growing our member community through strategic communications, marketing and outreach. The team leads membership recruitment and retention, maintains our member database, manages membership programs, publications, digital content, media relations and branding to ensure consistent, impactful messaging that supports the organization’s goals.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Senior Digital Communications Manager leads AAAAI’s digital strategy, overseeing social media, website content, digital marketing and video production to enhance engagement and promote the allergy/immunology specialty. Under the direction of the Director of Communications amp; Membership, the Senior Digital Communications Manager aligns digital strategies with organizational goals, ensuring consistent branding, messaging and engagement across all digital platforms.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: (Minimum 37.5 hrs/wk)
  • Digital Strategy amp; Leadership
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital communications strategy that supports AAAAI's mission and strategic objectives.
    • Supervise the Online Communications Manager, providing leadership, coaching and performance management.
    • Partner with internal departments to develop integrated digital communication strategies that support membership, education, advocacy, meetings and public awareness initiatives.
    • Monitor emerging technologies, trends and best practices in digital communications, recommending and implementing new approaches that enhance member engagement and organizational effectiveness.
  • Social Media Strategy and Execution
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to enhance brand awareness, engagement and audience reach.
    • Manage all AAAAI and affiliated social media accounts, including content planning, posting, monitoring and engagement.
    • Analyze and report on social media performance metrics, refining strategies based on insights.
    • Monitor emerging social media platforms, trends and best practices to optimize AAAAI’s social media presence.
  • Digital Content Strategy
    • Develop and implement an integrated digital content strategy that supports organizational goals and enhances member engagement.
    • Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and branding across digital platforms, including the website, email campaigns, and social media.
    • Provide strategic oversight of website content to ensure accuracy, timeliness, brand alignment, and optimization for web readability and engagement.
    • Oversee content creation and optimization for SEO, mobile responsiveness and accessibility, mobile responsiveness and digital best practices.
    • Lead the planning and execution of digital marketing campaigns to promote the allergy/immunology specialty, AAAAI programs and member engagement.
    • Develop and oversee AAAAI's video strategy, including planning, production and distribution of video content supporting education, advocacy, membership and marketing initiatives.
    • Plan and manage content calendars to align with organizational initiatives.
  • Analytics
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for digital communications, using analytics and audience insights to continuously improve engagement and organizational impact.
    • Work with the Online Communications Manager to monitor website, email marketing and social media performance using Google Analytics and other reporting tools.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Ensure digital platforms comply with privacy regulations and industry best practices.
    • Serve as a liaison to assigned AAAAI committees.
    • Attendance at the Annual Meeting is required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

AMOUNT OF TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Possibly 2-3 weeks per year; some evening and weekend work may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two-days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as a required all-staff in-office day) are a requirement of the role.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media or a related field.
  • 5- 7 years of progressively responsible experience in digital communications, marketing or a related field. Demonstrated success developing and implementing integrated digital communication strategies.
  • Experience with enterprise social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and content management systems.
  • Strong understanding of email marketing platforms and segmentation/targeting best practices.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and communications skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in video production tools is a plus.
  • Prior experience supervising staff preferred.
  • Experience in association management, non-profits, or healthcare communications is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional lifting of 20-30 pounds.
