We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $77,500 - $98,100. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. We're looking for a new communications professional to join the General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Communications Department. Our team is made up of pros who specialize in core functions and collaborate to engage our target audiences. We shape how current and future employees, our customer and other stakeholders view BIW and the incredible, complex ships we build for the U.S. Navy. Join us in a mission that matters.
Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Senior Digital Content Specialist ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.
Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Leadership:
    • Champion and enforce BIW safety policies and procedures.
    • Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
    • Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with government and company safety standards.
  • Project Execution:
    • Create graphics and branded visual assets for social media, advertising, internal communication and product support and ensure that all content follows the brand guidelines and maintains a consistent voice and visual identity.
    • Support, draft and design messages and graphics across multiple platforms for employee engagement to include new employee onboarding, Safety, Training, Employee Resource Groups, Benefits and total-rewards communications to include flyers, stickers, digital slides, mailers and other collateral material.
    • Create marketing campaigns and benchmark to established goals.
    • Update website content related to hiring, including event calendars, featured jobs, and information for current employees to enhance employee engagement.
    • Develop and publish content across Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn and understand BIW's audiences' unique needs on each platform.
    • Write engaging captions with strong hooks, clear calls-to-action, and platform-appropriate tone.
    • Build monthly content calendars aligned with our company goals and mission as a premier shipbuilder for the U.S. Navy and maintain organized workflows for scheduled posts and content preparation.
    • Monitor comments and messages and, when appropriate, engage positively with audiences across social media platforms to share information and build community.
    • Help manage digital marketing budgets for paid search and social media.
    • Shoot and edit photos and/or short-form video for social media and BIW's website to support employee engagement and marketing needs in collaboration with other members of the Communications and Talent Acquisition teams.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Support special events including Service Anniversary Recognition events, ship construction milestones such as Keel Layings and Christenings, BIW Employee Spirit Team events, community relations and other company projects.
    • Assist with crisis and sensitive-event communications, including weather, safety and closure updates.
    • Ensure messaging is clear, consistent and aligned with company brand guidelines.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Monitor platform trends and recommend opportunities for growth.

This is an in-office position. As the Senior Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for monitoring BIW's social media accounts, they will be required to respond to posts that need immediate attention and/or share these posts with the appropriate personnel outside of the traditional workday. The Communications Department executes occasional after-hours or weekend special events which the Senior Specialist will be required to support as part of the team.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, business, public relations, English, journalism, graphic design, website design or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Fluency with social media platforms and content creation (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), Meta Business Suite and Meta Ads Manager.
  • At least four years of increasing responsibility with content development, professional digital media marketing and communications, project management, and using photography and video for digital marketing campaigns.
  • Experience using social media management and analytics tools, such as Sprout Social, and native platform analytics to manage accounts, schedule content, monitor engagement and support clients.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, teams, or departments and also with confidential information.
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and practices, including web performance analytics, SEO, and social media analytics.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while also working collaboratively in a team environment with a positive "can-do" attitude.
  • Adept at organizing, meeting deadlines, and conducting research.
  • Ability to effectively participate in meetings communicating the status of assignments.

Preferred Experience
  • Certifications in Google Analytics, Google Ads or other relevant digital marketing certifications.
  • Experience in Tableau features, Data Optimization, and Data Visualization.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style.
  • Experience in using AI to create and manage digital content and a habit of helping teammates adopt new tools and ways of working.
  • Use of the Wordpress content management systems.
