What is a digital associate editor?

Digital Associate Editors are professionals responsible for assisting in the creation, editing, and publication of digital content for websites, online magazines, or social media platforms. They work closely with senior editors and content creators to ensure content meets quality standards, follows editorial guidelines, and aligns with the brand’s voice. Their tasks may include fact-checking, proofreading, formatting articles, selecting multimedia elements, and sometimes managing content schedules. Digital Associate Editors play a key role in maintaining the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of online content.

How does a digital associate editor typically collaborate with other departments to ensure content quality and consistency?

Digital Associate Editors often work closely with writers, graphic designers, and the social media team to ensure that published content aligns with editorial standards and brand guidelines. They may coordinate with SEO specialists to optimize articles for search visibility and communicate with marketing teams to support campaign goals. Regular meetings and collaborative editing platforms are commonly used to streamline feedback and maintain a cohesive content strategy across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital associate editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digital Associate Editor, you need strong writing, editing, and content curation skills, typically supported by a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical authority for service information systems, bridging the gap between engineering, service operations, and technical publications teams. You will design and implement end-to-end solutions that streamline how service content is created, managed, delivered, and consumed across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead implementations of PTC Service Lifecycle Management solutions, including Windchill Service Information Manager (SIM), Service Parts Management, and associated modules

  • Design structured authoring environments using PTC Arbortext Editor and Arbortext Publishing Engine for the production of technical documentation (maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, service bulletins, and interactive electronic technical publications)

  • Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, document as-is processes, and design future-state architectures that optimize service content workflows

  • Lead and guide integration efforts between PTC SLM/Arbortext and adjacent enterprise systems (ERP, PLM, CRM, PDM/Windchill)

  • Provide technical direction for content delivery strategies, including IETP delivery, web-based portals, and mobile platforms

  • Mentor and coach junior consultants, developers, and customer administrators on PTC SLM and Arbortext best practices

  • Develop and present solution proposals, architecture diagrams, effort estimates, and technical roadmaps to both technical and executive audiences

  • Support pre-sales activities, including demos, proof-of-concept builds, and RFP/RFI responses

Travel Requirements:

Travel is required for this role and could vary up to 75%

Here's what you need:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical solutions architecture, with at least 2 years hands-on with PTC Service Lifecycle Management and/or Arbortext

  • 1+ year experience designing and deploying Windchill SIM environments, including service structure management, applicability, and effectivity

  • 1+ year experience with Arbortext Editor, Arbortext Publishing Engine (APE), and Arbortext Content Manager (ACM) or Windchill as a content repository

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If associate degree, must have a minimum of 6 years' work experience)

Bonus Points If:

  • Strong working knowledge of XML/SGML authoring, DTD/schema development, and stylesheet customization (XSL-FO, FOSI)

  • Familiarity with technical documentation standards (S1000D, ATA, DITA) and their implementation within Arbortext environments

  • Experience integrating PTC tools with PLM platforms, ERP systems, or content delivery platforms via REST/SOAP APIs

  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate complex technical architectures into clear guidance for non-technical stakeholders

  • PTC certification in Windchill, Service Lifecycle Management, or Arbortext

  • Experience with Servigistics or PTC Service Parts Management for parts catalog and inventory optimization

  • Knowledge of Creo Illustrate or IsoDraw for technical illustration and 3D-to-2D figure workflows
