What is a digital analytics developer?

A Digital Analytics Developer is a professional who implements, manages, and optimizes analytics solutions on digital platforms, such as websites and mobile apps. They work with tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, and tag management systems to collect and analyze user data. Their role involves creating and maintaining tracking codes, ensuring accurate data capture, and providing insights that support business decisions. Digital Analytics Developers often collaborate with marketing, design, and engineering teams to improve digital performance and user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital analytics developer?

To thrive as a Digital Analytics Developer, you need a strong background in web development, JavaScript, data analysis, and a relevant degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Tag Management Systems (e.g., Google Tag Manager), and data visualization platforms is crucial. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication set high performers apart in this role. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring accurate data collection, insightful analysis, and clear reporting that drive data-driven decision-making for organizations.

How does a digital analytics developer typically collaborate with marketing and IT teams?

Digital Analytics Developers often act as a bridge between marketing and IT teams, ensuring that web analytics tools are properly implemented and data is accurately captured across digital platforms. They work closely with marketers to understand campaign goals and reporting needs, translating those requirements into technical specifications. At the same time, they coordinate with IT or web development teams to integrate tracking codes, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and maintain data integrity. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential, as this role frequently involves explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

What is the difference between Digital Analytics Developer vs Data Analyst?

  • Translate complex and often ambiguous business requirements into scalable, maintainable, and well-documented data products
  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert in analytics engineering, SQL, data modelling, metric definition, and business data interpretation
  • Establish and promote best practices for data modelling, documentation, testing, and analytics engineering across the data platform
  • Partner with the Principal Data Engineer and Data Architect to align data architecture, ingestion strategies, transformation frameworks, and consumption patterns
  • Collaborate with the Analytics Quality Engineer to continuously improve data quality, testing, governance, validation, and reliability standards
  • Work closely with AI teams to ensure analytical datasets and semantic models support AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics use cases
  • Serve as a cross-functional subject matter expert, quickly developing expertise across new business domains while helping preserve and scale organisational knowledge through data products and documentation
  • Mentor and support Analytics Engineers, fostering excellence in SQL, data modelling, stakeholder management, business analysis, and analytics engineering best practices

  • Ability to work comfortably across multiple domains while maintaining an end-to-end understanding of how business processes connect across the organization
  • Strong understanding of data quality, validation, testing, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis practices
  • Experience establishing standards, best practices, and governance approaches across analytical environments
  • Strong documentation and knowledge sharing practices
  • Experience mentoring and influencing peers and teams without relying on direct authority
