What are Digital Accessibility Program Managers?

Digital Accessibility Program Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and implementing strategies to ensure digital products and services are accessible to people with disabilities. They coordinate efforts across teams to comply with accessibility standards like WCAG and legal requirements such as the ADA. Their role includes developing policies, providing training, monitoring compliance, and collaborating with designers, developers, and stakeholders to remove digital barriers. By fostering an inclusive digital environment, they help organizations reach a wider audience and reduce the risk of legal issues related to accessibility.

Why does digital mean?

In the context of a Digital Accessibility Program Manager, 'digital' refers to electronic content, websites, and online platforms that require accessible design to ensure all users, including those with disabilities, can access information and services. The role involves understanding digital tools, standards like WCAG, and implementing accessible solutions across digital environments.

What is the meaning of digital?

In the context of a Digital Accessibility Program Manager, 'digital' refers to electronic content, platforms, and technologies such as websites, applications, and digital documents. Understanding digital is essential for ensuring accessibility and compliance with standards like WCAG. It involves skills in digital tools, content management, and assistive technology compatibility.

Is digital mean online?

Digital typically refers to information stored, transmitted, or processed electronically, often through online platforms. In the context of a Digital Accessibility Program Manager, it relates to making digital content and tools accessible on websites, apps, and other online environments. A Digital Accessibility Program Manager works closely with diverse teams such as designers, developers, product managers, and content creators to embed accessibility best practices into every stage of the digital product lifecycle. They provide guidance, training, and resources to help teams understand and implement accessibility requirements and may lead regular reviews or audits to track progress. By fostering open communication and advocating for inclusive design, they help create a supportive environment where accessibility is prioritized and integrated into workflows.

To thrive as a Digital Accessibility Program Manager, you need a deep understanding of accessibility standards (such as WCAG), project management experience, and a background in web or software development. Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, assistive technologies, and relevant certifications like CPACC or WAS are highly beneficial. Outstanding communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills help drive organizational change and foster inclusive collaboration. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring digital products are accessible, legally compliant, and user-friendly for all.

What are 5 examples of digital devices?

Digital accessibility program managers need to understand various digital devices to ensure inclusive design. Examples include smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, and wearable devices like smartwatches. Familiarity with these devices helps in developing accessible digital content and interfaces.
