Job description

We're currently seeking a Landscaping Crew Member for our Excavation Department. 

This position will work out of our South Plainfield, NJ office 

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Landscape Installation Laborer to join our installation crew.

This position is responsible for assisting with the installation of landscaping at residential and commercial properties. Work may include planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and groundcover; installing mulch, topsoil, sod, and decorative stone; grading and preparing planting areas; and assisting with drainage and irrigation installations. This is a year-round position. 

The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors, can perform physically demanding work, follow instructions, and works effectively as part of a crew.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation of trees, shrubs, flowers, groundcover, and other plant material.
  • Prepare planting beds by removing existing vegetation, grading soil, and adding topsoil or soil amendments.
  • Install sod, seed, mulch, decorative stone, landscape edging, and landscape fabric.
  • Dig holes, trenches, and planting beds using hand tools and powered equipment.
  • Assist with drainage and irrigation installations, including trenching, laying pipe, and backfilling.
  • Load, unload, and transport plants, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Spread and grade soil, compost, mulch, and other landscape materials.
  • Operate hand tools and small equipment such as wheelbarrows, compactors, tillers, sod cutters, power saws, and string trimmers.
  • Assist equipment operators and crew leaders during installation projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
  • Properly clean and store tools and equipment at the end of each workday.
  • Follow project plans, crew-leader instructions, and company safety procedures.
  • Perform other landscaping and property-maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Be available for snow removal in the winter. 

Qualifications

  • Previous landscaping, construction, irrigation, or outdoor labor experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with a crew.
  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 50–75 pounds.
  • Ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, dig, shovel, rake, and stand for extended periods.
