Position Summary 


The Automotive Red Seal Journeyman Technician, Medium Duty, is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining medium duty trucks in accordance with OEM standards. This role requires strong technical expertise in medium duty engines, chassis, drivetrains, electrical systems, and diesel technologies (where applicable). The Technician works closely with Service Advisors, the Shop Foreman, and other technicians to ensure accurate communication, efficient workflow, and high-quality workmanship. 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Diagnose and repair medium duty truck systems, including engines, transmissions, driveline components, suspension, steering, and braking systems.
  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and safety related services according to OEM and dealership guidelines. 
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emissions system concerns using OEM approved diagnostic tools and scan equipment. 
  • Complete warranty and customer pay repairs following OEM procedures and documentation standards. 
  • Provide detailed, accurate documentation of all work performed on repair orders. 
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to verify concerns and confirm successful repairs. 
  • Collaborate with Service Advisors to communicate diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, timelines, and parts requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace while adhering to dealership and manufacturer safety policies.
  • Participate in required OEM training and certification programs related to medium duty platforms. 
  • Support the development of apprentices and junior technicians as requested by shop leadership. 
  • All other duties as assigned by leadership.


Qualifications 

  • Red Seal Certified Automotive Service Technician (or equivalent Journeyman certification).
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing medium duty trucks (Class 3–6) required; dealership or OEM experience preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines, diesel systems, drivetrains, and commercial grade chassis components. 
  • Proficiency with OEM diagnostic platforms, scan tools, and service information systems. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills. 
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities within a dealership environment. 
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. 
  • OEM specific medium duty training or certifications are considered a strong asset.
