What is a FIFO mechanic?

A FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) mechanic is a technician who works on a rotational schedule, traveling to remote work sites for set periods and then returning home. This setup is common in industries like mining, oil and gas, where mechanics perform maintenance on heavy equipment in isolated locations.
