Job Title: Diesel Generator Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial diesel generators, transfer switches, and fire pump engines that support critical infrastructure. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, communicate directly with clients and internal teams, and ensure reliable operation of high-voltage power systems in demanding environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial diesel generators, transfer switches, and fire pump engines to ensure reliable operation.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on generators, engines, motors, and associated systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical wiring, high-voltage systems, and 3-phase power circuits using schematics and technical documentation.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to service and repair diesel generators and related equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, chief engineers, and internal teams regarding service needs, findings, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the field service team and administrative staff to schedule and complete service calls efficiently.
  • Load, unload, and transport heavy tools and equipment, including items weighing up to 130 lbs, while following proper safety procedures.
  • Drive and maneuver trailers in varied conditions to transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to respond to emergency, after-hours, and weekend service requests.
  • Attend company-paid continuing education and training to maintain and enhance technical skills and industry knowledge.
  • Document work performed, including inspections, repairs, and parts used, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures when working around high-voltage diesel generators and critical infrastructure.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on diesel experience, including maintenance and repair of diesel engines and generators.
  • 3–5 years of high-voltage electrical experience working with generators and related systems.
  • Proficiency in generator maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for industrial applications.
  • Strong experience working with engines, motors, and electrical systems in field environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical diagrams.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools for mechanical and electrical work.
  • Experience working with diesel generators, electrical wiring, and 3-phase power systems.
  • Capability to load, unload, and move equipment weighing up to 130 lbs safely.
  • Valid driving skills with the ability to drive and maneuver trailers in varied conditions.

Work Environment

You work primarily around high-voltage diesel generators that support critical infrastructure, including hospitals, data centers, casinos, and other facilities where uninterrupted power is essential. The role is field-based and involves traveling to various customer sites, often in operational and technical environments. You regularly handle and move heavy tools and equipment, and you may need to drive and maneuver trailers to and from job locations. Safety is central to the work, as you operate in environments with high-voltage electrical systems and large rotating machinery. You use a range of technologies and equipment, including diesel generators, transfer switches, fire pump engines, hand and power tools, and digital devices such as a company-provided iPad, laptop, and phone. The position includes an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend work, providing a mix of standard and emergency response assignments. Uniforms and personal protective equipment are provided and expected to be worn in accordance with safety policies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $91520.00 - $95680.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
