Summary:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction/supervision of a registered nurse, this position performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties for an assigned nursing unit. Assists in the transcribing and processing of physicians orders, maintains patient charts in an accurate manner, maintains adequate unit supplies, aids in processing charges and scheduling for interventional radiology procedures. Performs routine and delegated duties.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Organizational skills are necessary.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English. Spanish preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
• Hospital experience preferred.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Must have proficient organizational skills and computer skills.
• At least one (1) year of hospital experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of proper telephone etiquette, and strong typing skills are highly desired.

Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
• Performs clerical duties as assigned by the nursing staff, physicians or members of management.
• Transcribes physicians' orders, and maintains chart records and other files.
• Answers phones and routes calls to the appropriate parties.
• Uses resources in an efficient and cost effective manner.
• Maintains and promotes a team spirit through active cooperation and collaboration.
• Orders and stocks the necessary supplies.
• Maintains knowledge of and conforms to Hospital policy/procedures.
• Schedules interventional radiology procedures.
• Process charges for interventional radiology procedures.
• Performs patient confirmations daily.
• Communicates pre-procedure instructions to patients.
• Obtains medical release forms.
• Other duties as assigned.

•B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
