Dexa Scan Techs often encounter patients with varying levels of mobility, medical conditions, and anxiety about medical procedures. Adapting the scanning process for patients with limited movement or discomfort can be challenging, requiring both technical skill and empathy. A Dexa Scan Tech typically does not earn $300,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with executive roles, specialized physicians, or high-level medical directors. Most technologist roles in medical imaging have lower salary ranges, often between $60,000 and $100,000 per year.

How to become a dexa scan tech?

To become a DEXA scan technician, you typically need to complete a relevant radiologic technology or medical imaging program and obtain certification such as the Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) or a specialized DEXA certification. Prior experience with imaging equipment and knowledge of anatomy and patient positioning are also important. Licensing requirements vary by region but generally include passing a certification exam and maintaining continuing education.

What are Dexa Scan Techs?

Dexa Scan Techs, also known as DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) Technologists, are healthcare professionals who operate DEXA scanners to measure bone mineral density. They help diagnose conditions like osteoporosis by performing scans and ensuring accurate imaging results. Dexa Scan Techs work in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, often collaborating with radiologists and other medical staff to provide essential information about a patient's bone health.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Dexa Scan Tech, and why are they important?

Familiarity with DEXA scanning equipment, PACS systems, and electronic health records is typically required. Attention to detail, strong patient communication, and the ability to provide reassurance make someone stand out in this position. These skills ensure accurate diagnostic results, patient comfort, and smooth clinical workflow in bone health assessment.

Which imaging tech gets paid the most?

Among imaging technicians, MRI technologists tend to have the highest average salaries, followed by CT scan technologists. Salary levels depend on experience, certifications, and geographic location, with those working in hospitals or specialized clinics often earning more.
