Job description

Application Engineer

The Application Engineer supports the sales team and customers by providing technical expertise on compressed air systems, equipment selection, system design, performance evaluations, and optimization solutions. This role works closely with engineering, sales, and service teams to ensure proposed solutions meet performance, cost, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer applications, operating conditions, and air demand requirements to recommend appropriate compressed air equipment and system solutions.
  • Design and size compressed air systems, including compressors, dryers, filtration, piping, storage, and controls.
  • Prepare technical proposals, system layouts, and supporting documentation.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and bid documents to ensure compliance with industry and company standards.
  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to the sales team and customers.
  • Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and technical presentations.
  • Assist in creating and delivering product training for customers and internal teams.
  • Perform system assessments and audits to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support order fulfillment by ensuring application details are accurate and properly communicated to engineering, manufacturing, and service teams.
  • Collaborate with project managers on system installations and commissioning.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for application-specific performance issues.
  • Develop system performance calculations, technical reports, and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer requirements, design data, and project notes.
  • Support the creation of technical literature and application guides.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent technical experience in the compressed air industry considered.
  • 2–5 years of experience working with compressed air equipment, pneumatic systems, or industrial machinery.
  • Strong understanding of compressed air fundamentals (CFM, PSI, dew point, power consumption, load/unload, variable speed, controls).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, electrical diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, system modeling tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with sales, service, and engineering teams.
  • Ability to conduct on-site evaluations in industrial environments.
  • Must be able to travel to customer locations, site visits, and occasional industry events (20–40% depending on region).
