Job Description
Job Description
Project Engineer

As Project Engineer at our Erie plant, you will turn capital plans into running equipment—on time, on budget, and ready for high-volume production. Your projects expand forging, spin-forming, coating, and CNC capacity so we meet OEM demand without compromising safety or quality.

Performance Objectives
  • Deliver 3–5 capital projects per year from specification through production start-up, holding each to approved CAR budget and schedule.
  • Write complete project specifications, scopes of work, and Capital Appropriations Requests that win funding on first review.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and plant teams so site work stays on the critical path and downtime is planned, not surprise.
  • Resolve technical issues during install and commissioning so new equipment meets process capability and quality targets before handoff.
  • Keep project documentation current—drawings, permits, punch lists, and close-out packages—and present concise progress reports to plant leadership.
  • Secure required environmental, safety, and regulatory approvals without delaying the start-up date.
  • Hand over processes that reduce cost, cycle time, or waste while holding or improving quality metrics on a sustainable basis.

Environment & Resources

You report to plant engineering leadership and work daily with operations, quality, maintenance, and external vendors in a unionized, high-volume wheel manufacturing environment. You will use project-management and engineering-design software plus Microsoft Office, and you will own CAR development and vendor selection. Travel is limited; most work is on the Erie floor and in the engineering office.

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering.
  • 3–5 years leading capital or project-engineering work in manufacturing, with a proven record of completed projects.
  • Hands-on experience writing CARs, managing budgets, and procuring equipment and materials.
  • Ability to read equipment specifications, apply industry standards, and work within EHS and quality-system requirements (ISO/IATF 16949 a plus).
  • Clear communication with all levels—operators, contractors, and executives—and the organization to run several projects at once.

Role Selling Points
  • Direct ownership of the projects that add real manufacturing capability for a leading commercial-vehicle wheel supplier.
  • Visible impact: your installations go into production and stay there.
  • Cross-functional access to process, quality, and operations teams in a plant that values data-backed improvement.
  • Stable, for-profit manufacturer with a focused North American commercial-vehicle mission.

If you finish projects that run, apply now and help Accuride keep the fleet rolling.
