Reporting to the Director, Core Network within the wireless engineering group, the device certification tester participates in the planning, coordination, and execution of all wireless device tests for Cogeco's mobility products. In close collaboration with the quality assurance lead, the wireless device certification tester is the expert in their field. The incumbent will be part of the wireless engineering group and will ensure that mobile devices function correctly on Cogeco's mobile network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, with the network quality assurance lead, the test plan for the certification and testing of mobile devices.

  • Coordinate and maintain the inventory of mobile devices used across Cogeco and its partners for executing test plans.

  • Execute the test plans developed by the network quality assurance manager for the certification of mobile devices to ensure that devices meet all relevant standards and function correctly on the Cogeco network.

  • Identify non-conformities observed during testing, provide initial analysis, and record details in the anomaly management system.

  • Track and requalify anomalies discovered during test execution.

  • Follow up on discovered anomalies with the supplier(s) before ensuring resolution and high-quality delivery.

  • Actively participate in problem resolution, discussing it with Cogeco architects as well as internal and external suppliers.

  • Evaluate mobile devices through laboratory testing, device or network log capture, and analysis of captures using post-processing tools.

  • Capture any device-related issues discovered during testing, including any device-specific limitations, detailing the step-by-step process for reproduction and defining the impact of the issue on the end user.

  • Ensure that solutions meet defined standards (3GPP, GSMA, etc.) and best practices and/or assist in defining and developing these standards and practices for Cogeco.

  • Be able to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment with strict deadlines, both as an individual contributor and as a team member.

  • Participate in knowledge transfer, documentation, and information sharing while staying informed about new technologies and technical areas.

  • Explore opportunities to leverage and integrate tools and use cases based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) dedicated to device characterization (e.g., test case generation, predictive anomaly analysis, intelligent automation).
  • Propose, specify, develop, and maintain automated tests (compliance, capacity, non-regression tests) within a CI/CD and DevOps framework.

Work Experience :

  • 5 years experience with a 3G/LTE/5G mobile operator.

  • 2-3 years experience with mobile device testing.

  • Experienced in capturing and analyzing device logs - QXDM / QCAT, MTK etc

  • Experience with LTE/5G networks and call flows.

  • Experience with Mobile Working Groups (GSMA NSX, GSMA TSG, PTCRB)

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or similar, or equivalent experience

  • Excellent knowledge of 5G / IMS / LTE wireless technology.

  • Detailed knowledge of LTE/5G protocols & call flows

  • General working knowledge in a Cloud Native environment, with technologies such as AWS/GCP/Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM or EKS.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

  • Autonomous and well-organized.

  • Good teamwork & interpersonal skills.

  • Good knowledge of the North-American wireless market.

  • Eligible to travel to the United-States.
