Job description

The Vehicle Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of the resort’s mountain equipment fleet, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trucks, side-by-sides, and other heavy equipment. This leadership role directs daily shop operations, supervises a team of mechanics, manages departmental budgets, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong mechanical expertise, organizational skills, and a commitment to safety, efficiency, and team development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversee preventative maintenance and repair programs for mountain vehicles and heavy equipment, including snowcats, snowmobiles, trucks, and utility vehicles
    • Review daily work orders, operational feedback, and maintenance requests to prioritize and assign shop tasks
    • Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance programs to ensure equipment readiness for winter and summer operations
    • Supervise, train, coach, and support a team of mechanics, promoting professional development and operational excellence
    • Participate in hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and employee development initiatives
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and corrective action as needed
    • Maintain department budgets, including labor, operating expenses, parts procurement, outside services, and capital planning
    • Support procurement planning for fleet replacement, equipment upgrades, and long-term maintenance needs
    • Participate in Mountain Operations leadership meetings and collaborate with other departments as needed
    • Assist with equipment repairs and shop operations when necessary
    • Oversee compliance with OSHA, DEQ, HAZMAT, SPCC, Lockout/Tagout, fuel system, and environmental safety requirements
    • Manage waste oil programs and coordinate required fueling system inspections and documentation
    • Support driver training initiatives related to company vehicle policies and procedures
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment
    • Perform additional duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • College degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred
    • Previous experience managing vehicle maintenance operations or heavy equipment shops required
    • Prior mechanical experience working on heavy equipment, snowcats, snowmobiles, or similar machinery preferred
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DEQ, HAZMAT, SPCC, Lockout/Tagout, and related safety regulations
    • Proven leadership and team management experience
    • Experience developing maintenance schedules, budgets, and operational plans
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency with computer systems, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office programs
    • Current U.S. Driver’s License required
    • Ski industry or mountain operations experience preferred
    • Engage in physical activities like walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching
    • Can safely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
