Job description

The Sustainability & Engineering Compliance Coordinator will lead and coordinate sustainability, recycling, packaging, and engineering-related compliance initiatives across the organization. The near-term emphasis will be packaging sustainability, recycling labeling, retailer packaging requirements, packaging efficiency, and material reduction. Over time, the role will expand into engineering process coordination, regulatory compliance tracking, supplier and product compliance execution, reporting, and continuous improvement of compliance workflows.
Primary Focus
• Lead execution and project management of Jasco sustainability, recycling, and packaging initiatives.
• Develop and maintain packaging strategies aligned with cost targets, sustainability goals, retailer requirements, and business profitability.
• Own packaging-related KPIs, including cost, recyclability, PCW/PCR content, packaging reduction, traceability, and sustainability progress.
• Drive packaging standardization, packaging efficiency, material optimization, plastic reduction, and material substitution initiatives across product categories.
• Coordinate with Marketing, Product Development, Operations, Engineering, Logistics, Trade Compliance, suppliers, manufacturers, and factories on packaging structure, sustainability claims, and new product launch execution.
• Support and coordinate engineering compliance processes across product, supplier, regulatory, customer-specific, and global market requirements as the role expands.
Sustainability, Recycling & Packaging Leadership
• Develop, coordinate, and maintain a packaging and sustainability roadmap aligned with cost, recyclability, packaging reduction, traceability, customer, and environmental objectives.
• Lead initiatives related to post-consumer recycled/waste materials, material reduction, plastic reduction, material substitution, packaging efficiency, and emerging sustainability technologies.
• Evaluate packaging materials, formats, and structures to improve shipping, storage, retail execution, cost, and overall efficiency.
• Develop and promote packaging standards and best practices across product categories.
Retailer, Regulatory & Claim Compliance
• Ensure packaging solutions align with retailer packaging standards, sustainability requirements, recycling regulations, vendor guide expectations, and customer documentation requirements.
• Coordinate recycling labeling and sustainability claim reviews with Marketing, Product Development, Legal/Compliance resources, Logistics, Trade Compliance, and external partners as needed.
• Monitor emerging packaging, recycling, sustainability, chemical, battery, and product compliance requirements and coordinate internal review of potential business impact.
Project & Cross-Functional Coordination
• Translate sustainability, packaging, retailer, and compliance requirements into actionable project plans with milestones, owners, risks, timelines, and deliverables.
• Lead or coordinate cross-functional teams to implement new or updated requirements and ensure key deadlines are met.
• Work with factories and suppliers on new product launches to ensure accurate packaging structure, material selection, documentation, and compliance readiness.
• Coordinate customer-specific compliance and sustainability requests, including retailer programs and documentation requirements.
Engineering Process & Compliance Support
• Support engineering-focused compliance activities across U.S., Canadian, and global markets, including product compliance documentation, supplier compliance, and customer-specific requirements.
• Assist with compliance execution areas such as CPSC e-filing, CPC/GCC documentation, FCC/ICES, DOE/CEC, UL/ETL status tracking, chemical compliance, battery regulations, energy efficiency labeling, and related requirements.
• Develop, document, standardize, and improve compliance workflows across Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Product Development, Operations, and suppliers.
• Maintain organized records and support documentation readiness for internal review, customer requests, and audits.
KPI Ownership, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Establish, maintain, and report KPIs for sustainability, recyclability, PCW/PCR content, packaging reduction, packaging cost, compliance status, risks, deadlines, and process effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities to reduce packaging cost, reduce components, simplify workflows, eliminate outdated processes, and improve execution efficiency.
• Research new and changing requirements, communicate impacts clearly, and educate stakeholders on upcoming changes and required actions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, Supply Chain, Project Management, Quality Systems, Data Analytics, Regulatory Affairs, Communications, or a related field is required; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in packaging, sustainability, recycling, product development, project coordination, compliance, engineering support, quality operations, supply chain, or a related business function is required
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with consumer products, retail packaging, sustainability programs, recycling requirements, packaging material optimization, product compliance, regulatory affairs, engineering processes, supplier compliance, or quality systems.
  • Familiarity with packaging materials, sustainability frameworks, recycling labeling, PCW/PCR content, UL, FCC, CPSC, DOE/CEC, TSCA, PFAS, Prop 65, battery regulations, retailer requirements, Walmart, Costco, Amazon, or global compliance programs.
