Job description

Job Description
Cottage Health seeks a Chief Development Officer- Service Lines. The Chief Development Officer- Service Lines oversees service line development and fundraising initiatives. Works closely with the Foundation Leadership, Executive Leadership, and Clinical Leadership of Cottage Health. Works at both the strategic and operational levels and will be expected to lead by example, working with a small portfolio of principal and major donors to achieve significant personal fundraising goals. The team will be expected to generate significant fundraising, often with goals of $25 million or more each year.
Responsibilities

  • Sets and executes the overall strategy for service line and leadership giving in alignment with Cottage Health's clinical and institutional priorities.
  • Leads, coaches, and evaluates a team of Directors of Development and support staff to ensure high performance, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Manages a select portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and donors, achieving significant personal fundraising goals while modeling best practices.
  • Partners with clinical leaders to develop philanthropic priorities, compelling cases for support, and integrated donor strategies for each service line.
  • Oversees goal-setting, forecasting, pipeline management, and metrics to ensure progress toward $25M+ in annual fundraising results.
  • Collaborates closely with Foundation leadership, executive leadership, and key volunteers to advance strategic solicitations and institutional relationships.

Ensures effective systems, processes, and cross-functional coordination with Advancement operations, stewardship, and communications.
Qualifications

LEVEL OF EDUCATION
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Administration, or Health Administration. Equivalent combination of education and extensive development experience (major/principal gifts, planned giving, or foundation relations) may be accepted.

Preferred:
  • JD or Master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as MBA, MHA, MPA, or MA/MS in related field.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Blackbaud NXT or similar CRM.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Preferred:
  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive). FAHP (Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy).

WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
  • Twenty (20) years of related professional experience. Ten (10) years of direct fundraising experience. Seven (7) years in a leadership role.
