Job description

Overview

The Human Resources Generalist will play an integral role in supporting the employee experience for the Houston office, with a primary focus on new employee onboarding, intern program coordination, employee development initiatives, and day-to-day HR support. This position will serve as a local point of contact for Houston employees and management regarding HR-related questions, policy guidance, employee concerns, and basic benefits inquiries.

This role will report to the Vice President of Human Resources and will work closely with the HR team in Baton Rouge to ensure consistency with company policies, best practices, compliance requirements, and benefit communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

New Hire Onboarding and Employee Integration

  • Coordinate and facilitate the new employee onboarding process; online onboarding, new hire paperwork, and completion of required employment documentation.
  • Support the offer letter process for Houston area professional hires. 
  • Coordinate office access, IT setup, workspace needs, and other new hire readiness items.
  • Conduct office new hire orientation, facility tours, and introductions to key team members.
  • Coordinate required training for new employees, including Cajun Qualified Driver Training, site-specific training, cultural training, and other applicable onboarding requirements.
  • Support Cajun’s Accelerated Onboarding for Managers, when applicable.
  • Partner with hiring managers and Baton Rouge HR to ensure new employees receive a consistent, organized, and positive onboarding experience.
  • Supports Talent Acquisition in professional hiring efforts as needed.

 Intern Program, Professional Development, and Employee Engagement

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of Cajun’s Intern Program for the Houston office.
  • Assist with intern onboarding, programming, events, communications, and overall intern experience.
  • Support Cajun development programs, including but not limited to the Mentoring Program and Cajun YP Program.
  • Assist with the ongoing development, coordination, and delivery of Cajun Career Growth Focus professional training.
  • Help coordinate training sessions, employee development events, and related communications.
  • Partner with Houston leadership and Baton Rouge HR to identify opportunities to improve employee engagement, development, and retention.

 HR Policy Support and Employee Relations Intake

  • Serve as a local point of contact for Houston employees and management regarding general HR policy questions, including attendance, PTO, workplace expectations, and related topics.
  • Provide initial intake and triage of employee concerns, questions, and complaints.
  • Determine which matters can be handled directly and which should be escalated to Baton Rouge HR.
  • Document and track employee complaints or concerns, escalating to Baton Rouge HR and/or management as appropriate based on the nature of the issue.
  • Assist supervisors with disciplinary documentation and serve as a witness during employee meetings when needed.
  • Partner with Baton Rouge HR to ensure employee relations matters are addressed consistently, professionally, and in accordance with company policy.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze data to make recommendations for continuous improvement.

 Benefits, Open Enrollment, and Employee Communication Support

  • Serve as a local point of contact for general benefits questions and assist employees with identifying the appropriate resources or Baton Rouge HR contacts.
  • Provide basic benefits and enrollment support, including significant assistance during annual open enrollment.
  • Assist with the intake and triage of benefit-related questions, escalating more complex issues to the appropriate Baton Rouge HR or Benefits team member.
  • Communicate important HR and benefits-related messages to Houston employees.
  • Help reinforce deadlines, required actions, and employee communications related to benefits, onboarding, training, and HR initiatives.

HR Compliance and Administrative Support

  • Assist Baton Rouge HR with employment law compliance activities, including labor law poster updates, I-9 and E-Verify support, audit preparation, and related documentation.
  • Support compliance with company policies, procedures, and employment-related requirements.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, documentation, and tracking logs as needed.
  • Assist with local HR administrative needs and special projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison between Houston management and the Baton Rouge Baton Rouge HR team on more complex HR, compliance, employee relations, and benefit matters.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an HR generalist, HR coordinator, onboarding, employee relations, training, professional development, or related role.
  • Working knowledge of HR policies, employment practices, and basic employment law compliance.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-up, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, managers, and Baton Rouge HR team members.
  • Comfortable providing front-line HR support while recognizing when matters should be escalated.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems preferred.
