Job description

Business Development Manager - Commercial Waste & Recycling

Twin Cities, Minnesota | Full-Time | Remote Territory

Since 1988, Walters Recycling & Refuse has helped businesses throughout the Twin Cities with safe, simple, and reliable waste and recycling solutions.

We're looking for a Business Development Manager who enjoys building new relationships, creating opportunities, and helping businesses find better environmental service solutions. This is a true hunter role focused on growing our commercial customer base through persistence, professionalism, and trust.
If you're energized by opening new doors, managing your own territory, and earning long-term customer relationships, you'll thrive here.

What You'll Do

As our Business Development Manager, you'll be responsible for developing new commercial business opportunities throughout your assigned territory.
Your responsibilities will include:

Prospecting and developing new commercial customers through calls, networking, referrals, and in-person visits.
Building relationships with business owners and decision-makers.
Conducting discovery meetings to understand customer operations and service needs.
Preparing and presenting customized waste, recycling, and environmental service proposals.
Managing opportunities through a sales cycle that typically exceeds six months.
Maintaining accurate CRM records, forecasts, and follow-up activities.
Working closely with Operations and Customer Service to ensure successful implementation of new accounts.
Growing recurring revenue while creating long-term customer partnerships.

What Success Looks Like
Successful Business Development Managers at Walters:

Consistently generate new commercial opportunities.
Achieve approximately $12,000 in new monthly recurring revenue.
Maintain a disciplined prospecting schedule.
Manage a healthy sales pipeline from first conversation through close.
Follow our sales process consistently.
Build trusted customer relationships that result in long-term contracts and renewals.

What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who:

Has at least two years of outside B2B or customer-facing sales experience.
Enjoys prospecting and developing new business.
Is comfortable working independently while collaborating with internal teams.
Communicates professionally and confidently with business owners and executives.
Uses CRM systems to stay organized and manage opportunities.
Has a valid driver's license and is willing to travel throughout the Twin Cities market.

Preferred qualifications include commercial B2B sales experience, recurring-service sales, waste or environmental services experience, and an established local business network.

Our Culture
Walters is a family-owned company built on long-term relationships, accountability, and dependable service.
Our team lives by seven core values:

Safety
Integrity
Excellence
Teamwork
Flexibility
Customer Focus
Having Fun

We're looking for someone who takes ownership, follows through on commitments, embraces coaching, works well with others, and believes customer relationships are more valuable than quick wins.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $45,000
Ramp Commission: $2,000 during on boarding
Competitive commission plan based on recurring monthly revenue and contract length
Top performers have the opportunity to earn up to approximately $200,000 annually

Benefits include:

Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
401(k) with Employer Match
Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays
Company-paid Life Insurance
Paid Parental Leave
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
HSA Employer Contributions
Free residential trash service within the Walters service area
Additional voluntary benefit options

Is This the Right Opportunity for You?
You'll enjoy this role if you like creating opportunities instead of waiting for leads, staying disciplined through a long sales cycle, and building relationships that last for years.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Join Walters Recycling & Refuse and help us continue delivering Safe. Simple. Reliable. service throughout the Twin Cities.

Please make sure to complete the assessment to be considered for the Business Development Manager position.
