Development Executive Assistant information

What is a development executive assistant?

Development Executive Assistants are administrative professionals who support executives or directors in the development or fundraising department of an organization, often within nonprofits, education, or healthcare. Their responsibilities typically include managing schedules, coordinating meetings and events, preparing reports, maintaining donor databases, and assisting with fundraising campaigns. They play a crucial role in ensuring that development operations run smoothly, allowing the executive team to focus on strategic initiatives. Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills are essential for success in this role.

How does a development executive assistant typically collaborate with fundraising and leadership teams?

A Development Executive Assistant often acts as a crucial liaison between development leadership, fundraising staff, and external stakeholders. They coordinate meetings, prepare briefing materials, and help manage donor correspondence to ensure smooth communication across departments. This role frequently involves tracking project timelines, supporting event logistics, and facilitating follow-ups, which requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Their support enables fundraising and leadership teams to focus on strategic initiatives while maintaining efficient daily operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a development executive assistant, and why are they important?

A Development Executive Assistant should have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in administrative support, often backed by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with donor management systems (like Raiser's Edge), event planning software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is typically required. Excellent interpersonal communication, discretion, and the ability to multitask under pressure are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. These competencies are vital for efficiently supporting fundraising initiatives, managing sensitive donor information, and ensuring seamless operations in a development or nonprofit environment.
