This position reports to:
Testing & Laboratory Manager
Your role and responsibilities
In this role as an Electrical Test Engineer, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of electrical testing with moderate to high complexity utilizing test and laboratory equipment, instrumentation and controls in our high volume Electrical Test Lab in Bloomfield CT. You will apply you electro-mechanical expertise to execute standard, as well as complex specialized, testing to satisfy end-to-end high-power testing for our entire low voltage product offering in an exciting fast paced environment while working with global R&D teams and ABB product teams.

This role is contributing to the R&D and CoS electrical testing to support ABB Electrification business priorities, primarily in the America's. Main stakeholders are Smart Building, Smart Power, Distribution Solutions and others as needed to support the ABB business needs.
You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Collaborating with a team of technical resources to carry out test requests for Global R&D teams in electrical and high-power components.
  • Performing R&D and compliance testing using standard and specialized test equipment, within the planned testing time, ensuring compliance to the quality and delivery metrics.
  • Preparing and operating test equipment for carrying out specific electrical tests, starting with calibration, dielectric, temperature rise with the goal of growing to learn short circuit, overload, electrical endurance, and specialized testing.
  • Performing basic calculations of technical data and report them accordingly.
  • Communicating test data and prepare technical documentation and formal reports as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance and qualification records.
  • Managing the test queue and update on a timely basis.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in handling proprietary test data, formulations, and data on patentable or other confidential items under development.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, and working area.
  • Adhering to ABB safety protocols and procedures.

Qualifications for the role
  • BS in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
  • 2 years of related experience is desired.
  • Must have basic knowledge in the operation of electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Must have strong knowledge of electricity theory and be able to read electrical schematics.
  • Show an eagerness to learn advanced electrical principles and electromechanical expertise.
  • Experience with reading and understanding UL, CSA, and IEC testing standards is also desired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  • Must be PC proficient including MS Office - Outlook, Excel, Word as a minimum.
  • Must have driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to satellite lab.
  • Candidates must have work authorization to work in the US.
