Optum Bank is seeking a high-impact Business Development Analyst - Remote to support the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of strategic lending opportunities, including loan portfolio acquisitions and third-party lending partnerships. This individual will operate at the intersection of corporate development, underwriting, and client-facing business development, playing a critical role in expanding Optum Bank's lending platform, revenue, and strategic partnerships. The ideal candidate combines solid financial modeling and credit analysis skills with the ability to engage external partners, represent Optum Bank in market-facing settings, and help originate new opportunities.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deal Evaluation & Financial Analysis
  • Build and maintain financial models for:
  • Loan portfolio acquisitions (consumer, SMB, healthcare lending)
  • Forward flow / partnership structures
  • Analyze credit performance, pricing, and return metrics (ROA, IRR, loss curves, cost of funds)
  • Partner with risk, finance, and treasury to assess structure and profitability
  • Prepare investment memos and executive-level materials to support decision-making
  • Business Development & Origination
  • Support sourcing and development of new lending opportunities and partnerships
  • Engage with external counterparties (fintechs, lenders, advisors, investment banks)
  • Represent Optum Bank in meetings, industry events, and partner discussions
  • Help expand relationships to drive repeat deal flow and long-term partnerships
  • Execution & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Assist in structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions
  • Coordinate across legal, compliance, credit, and operations teams
  • Support onboarding and ongoing performance monitoring of partnerships

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in Fintech lending platforms (e.g., Upstart, Upgrade)
  • 2+ years of experience in Investment banking (e.g., Raymond James or similar middle-market firms)
  • 2+ years of experience in Private credit, specialty finance, or structured finance
  • Solid understanding of credit performance metrics and loan economics
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities
  • Proven ability to translate complex analysis into clear, executive-ready insights
  • Demonstrated solid interpersonal and communication skills with client-facing confidence
  • Demonstrated high ownership mindset with ability to operate in a fast-moving, deal-oriented environment
  • Ability to travel 10% to 25% as needed

Preferred Qualification:
  • Experience with consumer, SMB, or healthcare lending

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
