We have an exciting opportunity to join our Distribution Engineering Team. The Engineer role will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and in the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include engineering and designing new infrastructure, analyzing systems, equipment failures and disruptions to system.


This position is part of the Distribution Engineering organization covering Western Massachusetts. The role is based in Hadley, MA.

The Distribution Engineer is responsible for the strategic development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the system and equipment to provide reliable service to customers. Technical solutions and modernization initiatives are improving operations and enablingintegration of renewable energy resources. The group also works to prevent, evaluate and provide appropriate resolutions to system failures.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.

  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.

  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; Possesses and applies the fundamental engineering concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.

  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Maintains accurate records and files.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.

  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.

  • Familiarity with power-related software is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years related experience is required. Engineering design experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver's license is required

Current guidelines require employees to workat least three days in the office, includingTuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to workup to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.
