Why This Role Exists

Mayfly Outdoors is expanding its in-house machining capabilities to support growth in precision fly fishing equipment manufacturing. This role plays a critical part in producing small, high-precision Swiss-machined components used in premium outdoor products.

As we increase capacity and prepare for equipment transitions, we are adding a skilled Swiss CNC Machinist who can take ownership of setups, process stability, and quality.

The Work You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Set up and operate Citizen Swiss-type CNC lathes
  • Machine small-diameter precision components with tight tolerances (±0.0001” preferred)
  • Edit and adjust G-code programs at the machine
  • Select tooling, optimize feeds and speeds, and manage tool offsets
  • Perform first article and in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and other precision measuring tools
  • Troubleshoot machining and quality issues in real time
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to improve part quality and efficiency
  • Lead training for production staff on Swiss machining processes
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and standardized training procedures
  • Support equipment relocation, commissioning, and qualification during a planned facility transition (may include temporary travel to Florida)

Required:

  • 5+ years CNC machining experience
  • Strong Swiss-type CNC lathe setup experience
  • Guide bushing and Swiss machining expertise
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.0001” preferred)
  • Comfortable editing G-code at the machine
  • Blueprint and GD&T proficiency
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude

Preferred:

  • PartMaker programming experience
  • Experience with Citizen “L” series Swiss machines
  • Experience in outdoor, medical, or aerospace manufacturing
  • Lean manufacturing / continuous improvement experience
  • Passion for fly fishing or outdoor products (a plus)
