What Is a Developer Advocate?
A developer advocate promotes the interests of developers and helps make it easier for them to use platforms for their work. In this job, you are the voice of a community of developers who may have insight into enhancing or changing a product. Your duties are to listen to the issues that developers are having while using a platform, research possible ways to address these problems, and bring them to the attention of the company that makes the product. You also help ensure that developers can perform their work easily by having access to all the features and capabilities of the software.

What is the difference between Developer Advocate vs Developer Evangelist?

| Work Environment | Collaborates with developers, product teams, and marketing | Focuses on community engagement, public speaking, and outreach |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Tech companies, startups, open-source projects | Tech companies, community organizations, startups |
Both roles require strong technical skills and community engagement. While Developer Advocates focus on bridging developers with products through technical content and support, Developer Evangelists emphasize promoting products via public speaking and community events. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in their primary focus: technical advocacy versus marketing outreach.

About the job
Passionate people are everywhere at Google. In Developer Relations, we get excited to collaborate and connect with the communities that love technology as much as we do. Part community manager and part developer advocate, Developer Relations Engineers collaborate with developers at conferences and online, and advocate for developers interests internally at Google. Not afraid to write sample code and client libraries as well as participate in developer forums and support queues to troubleshoot and debug coding problems developers encounter. Internally, you work with product engineering teams to improve our products by conveying feedback from developers, reviewing API designs and testing new features. Chrome, Android, App Engine, HTML5 as well as our core Google Applications and Ads APIs are just some of the platforms you promote and support.
With your technical expertise, you drive strategy around fostering a community of developers who work with Google technologies. An ardent advocate for these developers, you represent their voice internally to our Product Managers and serve as their Google support in application development and technology implementation.
In this role, you will empower developers with AI-ready knowledge, trusted content, and scaled, targeted enablement programs to accelerate Google's internal velocity. You will drive efforts to radically increase internal velocity at Google by engaging with partner teams across the organization. You will lead a crucial part of AI Enablement efforts by helping identify emerging trends in Google's Software Development Life-Cycle (SDLC), working to reduce friction in internal stacks, and help internal teams make investments and transform, based on metrics and insights. The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google's products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
