Job description

Per Diem Substitute Nurse

Location of position: Fairport, NY 14450; Fairport and East Rochester Campuses

Term of employment: Per diem substitute for the 2026-2027 school year

Starting date: As needs present themselves

Salary range: $150 per day or $20.00 per hour

Duties:

  • Performing treatments and procedures such as soaks, recording vital signs and weight, medication administration, accompanying students on trips
  • Screening students for illnesses, height, weight, scoliosis, vision, hearing
  • Administer first aid as needed using school health services medical policies
  • Communicate appropriately with school nurse, school personnel and parents
  • Carry out medical providers' orders as required
  • Have working knowledge of school health care regulations
  • Work under the direction of a registered nurse
  • Administer medications at other locations as needed
  • Work with diabetic students to assist in becoming self-directed

Qualifications:

  • Civil service eligibility as a licensed practical nurse: possession of a valid New York state registered professional nursing (RN) license or valid New York state licensed professional nursing (LPN) license
  • AED/CPR certification required; must renew with Monroe One BOCES
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • Must be able to perform CPR in a kneeling/floor-based position for a minimum of two continuous minutes
  • Physically able to perform essential job functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation), which may or may not include responding to emergency situations quickly (may require running up/downstairs, or running to sports field areas)
