Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
Cleans and maintains orderly condition of public and private facility areas, premises of office buildings, commercial or institutional buildings, fenceline and grounds as assigned. Duties involve a combination of the following: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing/polishing floors; vacuuming/shampooing carpeted floors; removing trash and other refuse; dusting and/or high dusting of fixtures, equipment and designated structures (may utilize catwalks for certain areas); polishing metal fixtures and trimmings; cleaning showers and restrooms; maintain and/or issue equipment/supplies and maintain stock records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Dust mops, sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors including, but not limited to, vinyl tiles, ceramic tiles and terrazzo. Spot mops all hard floors to remove spots and spills.
  • Vacuums carpeted areas and spot cleans any spills and stains.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies when needed or scheduled. 
  • Dusts all furniture, cubicles and equipment including doors, windows sills, ceilings, pictures, surface beams, walls, vents and other wall hangings and removes all cobwebs. Does not remove any papers from desktops, dusts only open areas. Cleans phone hand set with disinfectant.
  • Dusts and cleans lighting fixtures, marble surfaces and trim. 
  • Polishes metalwork and chrome fixtures (water fountains, metal doors, kick plates), elevator stainless steel doors and walls. 
  • Washes walls, ceiling and door panels. May wash windows and windowsills. Cleans all entrance way glass and office partitions glass. 
  • Empties all trash receptacles and replaces liners where necessary. Removes all trash to designated area. 
  • Cleans restroom fixtures including sinks, mirrors, tubs, shower areas, walls, floors. Replenishes toiletry supplies. 
  • Descales and sanitizes urinals and toilet bowls.
  • Maintain fenceline areas by removing trash and debris. May pull weeds and will clean 25ft around buildings as required. 
  • Reports building repair needs to the supervisor daily.
  • Participates in ISO practices and embraces ISO principles and philosophies in the performance of principal duties and responsibilities. M
  • Makes Safety the first consideration above all other responsibilities. Follows all safety rules and uses sound judgement for the protection of him/herself, co-workers, client personnel, general public and property.
  • Participates in safety training and attends safety meetings as scheduled by supervisor.
  • Also responsible for reporting unsafe conditions or practices.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred but not required. A minimum of one (1) year of related experience in a similar service related position preferred but not required.


Language Skills:
Ability to speak simple sentences, to read and interpret safety rules and to read chemical labels.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Occasional work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions.

Continuous standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, and grasping/squeezing.  Frequent lifting up to 50lbs and twisting trunk/neck.  Occasional stooping, bending, squatting, crawling, crouching, climbing and balancing. 

Highly essential functions:  working as a part of a group or alone, irregular hours (i.e. weekends, shifts, flextime, etc.), and high speed performance.
