Desktop Engineer
Overview
Our organization is seeking an experienced Desktop Engineer to join a growing End User Technology team. This role is ideal for someone with strong desktop engineering experience who enjoys designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise endpoint solutions in a Microsoft environment.
The Desktop Engineer will serve as a technical expert for desktop technologies, operating systems, software deployment, endpoint management, and end-user support. This position requires a hands-on, collaborative professional who can drive improvements in endpoint performance, security, and user experience.
This position is onsite during the contract period, with increased flexibility available upon conversion to a permanent employee.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Windows desktop environments and endpoint standards.
  • Manage and support Microsoft 365 technologies, including Microsoft Teams and Intune.
  • Create, test, and deploy software packages using Microsoft Intune and PDQ Deploy.
  • Administer enterprise patch management and software update processes.
  • Provide Tier III technical support, troubleshooting complex issues and performing root cause analysis.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for desktop engineering initiatives and endpoint-related projects.
  • Monitor endpoint performance, identify recurring issues, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and peripheral technologies to support business needs.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles.
  • Mentor Service Desk and support team members on desktop technologies and best practices.
  • Identify training opportunities that improve end-user productivity and technology adoption.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support business-critical systems outside of standard business hours.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to ensure a secure, stable, and efficient computing environment.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience with Windows desktop engineering and enterprise endpoint management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune administration and device management.
  • Hands-on experience with software packaging and deployment using PDQ Deploy and/or Microsoft Intune.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 technologies, including Teams administration.
  • Experience supporting desktop hardware and peripherals in an enterprise environment.
  • Active Directory administration and user management experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise patch management processes.
  • Ability to create technical documentation and knowledge base content.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a technical lead, mentor, or subject matter expert.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience supporting large-scale endpoint deployments and modernization initiatives.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Menasha, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
